like he's not even there. completely ignore him. no better way to treat someone who doesn't deserve anything from you.

Personally I wouldn't go. I'd avoid any situation which would wind me up sufficiently enough to start spouting vitriol in front of friends.

"At first I was really upset, but now I realize you were totally right. I'm so much happier now. I can't believe I'm saying this, but 'Thanks'." Then walk away and don't speak to him for the rest of the day. Literally do not make eye contact with him. It'll kill him.

The only time my heart's been truly broken there was no one to blame and nothing could be done.

I had a similar situation recently...

I showed up at a party (ex was present, but I didn't know this beforehand) with a girl I dated in high school and I'd just recently been reunited. Lucky for me, she was smokin' (and, to be quite honest, slightly out of my league;)). We had an amazing time and I quite honestly forgot the ex was even there. Add to this the fact that the cool rock star for whom I was pretty much dumped was there with a fox that he went out with before my ex. And there she was, all alone. I actually felt kind of bad for her. So, my advice: make him/ her jealous. However, very important that it doesn't appear that this is your goal or you'll end up looking silly.
