Wouldn't it be better if all ILX threads had titles like this?

are we supposed to imagine the 'errrrggg-urrgghhhh' wrong answer sound there?

an intriguing thought....if each link clicked on had a number, or was colour coded, or was named after a city of the world, or whatever, so that you didn't find out what it was about until you looked at it. Would it mean that ppl would post to threads they would otherwise not consider posting to?

I think the answer is "probably not". The existence of the Random button gives us an inkling of what would happen. admittedly, the random button is just another feature which I suspect most of us have given a go when we've had a spare moment, but my experience of it is that, although it sometimes brings up wheat, usually you just get an unpalatably large quantity of chaff.

But of course the Random button is only a very vague indicator. If you had a message board which was purely organised on this basis, the dynamic might be slightly different, but I'm not convinced it would be very different.

Okay, let's all have a shot of the Random button right now, and post to whatever thread it brings up. No cheating.....

it's the worst idea ever, tho thread titles in binary may yet satsify my nerdlingering

yes, I think to answer the question specifically - it definitely would not be better if all ILX threads had titles like that. But whether there should be a board which did operate purely in that fashion is a question I'm not so so sure about.

My experimentation with the Random button at rumpy Pumpkin's behest brought up Office Space C or D? If I'd decided not to "cheat" and posted to that thread i would have had to say "I can't pass judgement as i never saw it", which would be honest but not especially enlightning. The limitations of the Random button in a nutshell, I feel.

I like this idea: the format & number of digits looks like policy numbers for certain insurance carriers we work with, somebody sees a "0400164612" on my toolbar here in the office will think I'm working.

Where would one start a series of threads about loving message board communities containing threads named after numbers?

I think just numbering threads would make things a little confusing.
