Live Aid II
By GEORGE PASCOE-WATSON

LIVE Aid is to be held AGAIN — 20 years on.

The mega concert to ease Third World debt — on the anniversary of the 1985 original — will be unveiled this week.

Tony Blair is backing what promises to be the greatest pop bash in history.

Last night a Whitehall source confirmed: “It’s going to be bigger and better than before.”

Live Aid II is the brainchild of U2 rocker Bono, 44.

He will officially announce it this week.

Robbie Williams and Oasis are tipped to head a stellar line-up of acts next year that could also include Coldplay and Radiohead.

Sir Paul McCartney and Phil Collins, stars of the first Live Aid, may also appear.

The 1985 event, staged simultaneously at Wembley and in Philadelphia, was watched on TV by 1.4billion worldwide.

Is this a good or bad idea?
We can also discuss the effects of the 1st Live Aid held in 1985.

Geldof denies Live Aid II reports

Sir Bob Geldof has denied reports that he and U2 singer Bono are planning a repeat of the 1985 Live Aid concerts.
The Sun newspaper claimed on Monday that Prime Minister Tony Blair was backing Geldof's plans for another event to help ease Third World debt.

But the musician said such stories only undermined the efforts of "those people concerned with the tragedy of poverty".

"However, if the Prime Minister wants to organise a Live Aid II, then good luck to him," he continued.

This will surely be as succesful as Net Aid. Hopefully Bono and Wycleff will collaborate on another song to mark the occasion.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 31 May 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

But they did save the Internet, right?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 31 May 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"All de way from Dublin, here come Bono".

Wycleff (Dom Passantino), Monday, 31 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate Bono.

CRW (CRW), Monday, 31 May 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

That's odd, he always speaks highly of you, Calz.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 31 May 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

So since lots of big bands will reform like Live Aid 1985, who would you like to see play? Who would you like to see reform and play?(be realistic, Lightning Bolt will not play no matter how much you want.

I personally hope The Police will play just so we avoid a Sting solo spot. Same with genesis so Phil Collins isnt solo.
I just hope it doesnt mean the usual old fart acts.
No doubt chart acts like Britney , destinys child will play too.
Lets hope its better acts than last time!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

This song is going to be the new Unchained Melody, isn't it?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Please tell me Demi Moore isn't involved.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be surprised if Minnie Driver isn't involved.

I need your love ar har you see, God speed your love but not before we've heard a touch of "Third Stone From The Sun" played by Alyn Ainsworth and the BBC Northern Dance Orchestra and then Leo Strauss will be answering your gardening queries you see.

JY Prog, Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder who's going to get Bono's line. Maybe they'll change it.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Bono is a famewhore, he'll probably want to be on the new version as well.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"Well tonight thank God it's you instead of us."

Does this mean we'll also get a new version of "We Are The World" with Eminem, Madonna, Shania Twain, Fred Durst...?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Who else might reprise their original roles then, besides Bono? Simon Le Bon? George Michael?

And does anyone know who sang which bits on the '89 Band Aid 2 version? Wasn't it 90% Stock-Aitken-Waterman artists or something?

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Sonia: the greatest gift they'll get this year is life
Lisa Stansfield: where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris Rea: It's Christmas time, there's no need to feel afraid.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Big Fun: we can spread a smile of joy!

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

No they bloody couldn't.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

BONO WILL SAVE US ALL!

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Midge Ure has said he doesn't want Bono or Le Bon or any of the original people on the remake as they are "too old."

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Does this mean we'll also get a new version of "We Are The World" with Eminem, Madonna, Shania Twain, Fred Durst...?

Marcello, since Shania is Canadian, she would have to participate in the 20th anniversary version of Northern Lights' "Tears Are Not Enough", along with Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, and Celine Dion. And it should be released before "We Are the World 2005", like the originals.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, I'd quite forgotten about that one. Not as good as the ABC song of the same name, obviously.

One notable absence from the cast list: Leonard Cohen (I'd love to hear him intone The Bono Line in his sepulchral basso profundo of doom).

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It must be Bono, or the Freaky Trigger Xmas joke will no longer work for the young people.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

hey man, if Duran Duran appear at Live Aid II, le Bon will hit the right notes this time.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)
