I've been thinking about having a yard sale.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 13 June 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The people my g/f works for had a yard sale this weekend. I scored 4 shirts (two Zegna, one Boss, one other) for $2 each and 7 bottles of wine, $1 each. Googling the wines has revealed that the '83 Trimbach gewertzentramminer (spelled all wrong I'm sure) and the '93 d'Arenberg Old Vine shiraz are well-regarded. Woohoo!

two years pass...
At Sunday's boot sale:

Moog Power by Hugo Montenegro
Flight 404 - Various (Trojan comp)
Feast - The Creatures
Burning Blue Soul - Matt Johnson

and various old 45's including oldies from The Shirelles, Bernard Cribbins and Anthony Newley.

A Life Of Brian by Flowered Up on CD for 10p, and not worth much more based on my first listen.

Some Kilner jars for preserves, and Intolerable Cruelty and Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD.

eleven years pass...

had a yard sale and both my wife and our neighbor were followed around by one lingering older guy who kept asking them if they had any perfume for sale. "opened perfume is fine..."

we have a garage (which was open--HUGE MISTAKE) and these groups of old dudes would enter and hold up items and ask, "IS THIS FOR SALE?" despite the sign saying ITEMS IN GARAGE NOT FOR SALE. i had to wrest a couple things from the hands of guys trying to buy them.

i sold a towel on accident, it wasn't supposed to be out there (i'd used it to clean something off) but i was offered a dollar so what the hell.

didn't sell any vintage paperbacks (which i thought was weird.)

i made the mistake of putting the word "RECORDS" in the ad, because i was descended upon by an endless stream of old record dudes who were clearly disappointed in the selection (i'm not AMOEBA RECORDS obviously) but still bought everything i put out.

it's easier to give everything away for free.
