Brad Pitt: C or D

I'm watching 12 Monkeys at the moment and I've got to say, the guy's a fucking genius. I would really love to invite him around to my house, smoke some weed, and just chill out with him. He just seems like a really cool guy.

Is this incredibly sad? Perhaps. I am a bit drunk.

Thoughts? Comments?

"a bit"?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, I'm coherent, aren't I? Deranged but coherent.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:35 (nineteen years ago) link

i like him, even in Snatch - best worst fake accent since Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot, maybe

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:36 (nineteen years ago) link

there was a cover story in the "sun-times" recently about brad pitt buying up this funky art by some chicago teenager (who has got her stuff in the m.c.a.).

his jowls scare me, otherwise classic.

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Are your British, Steve? I was hanging around with a bunch of comedians from the UK and we had a conversation about fake accents, IIRC they thought Brad Pitt's performance was pretty incredible.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I didn't like all that twitchy, actorish acting in 12 monkeys. I don't really understand why he's so big.

Jonathan Z. (Joanthan Z.), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:40 (nineteen years ago) link

you didn't know i was British?! haha...dam right cowboy, oh wait...i can never decide if Pitt's accent in Snatch is good or bad tho in truth - either way v funny

i liked his turn in Friends as well, playing the formerly fat guy Rachel used to pick on in high school - smart of the writers to throw him in as someone who would despise Aniston's character

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I really like Brad Pitt as an actor, not just for his looks. Meet Joe Black sucked though, which is surprising as I'm a girl!

His accent in snatch is totally classic!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Classic in exactly the context Andrew describes - smoking weed, getting drunk, hanging out, etc.

His butchering of the classics (in Troy), however, not so classic. He's just too modern.

His terrible Oirish accent in Snatch is a great send up of his own terrible Irish accent in The Devil's Own.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Sorry I'm a bit disoriented and confused. I've never been able to remember where all the ILXors are from.

He was good in Friends, if only because I despise the entire cast.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Troy wore down a lot of my regard for him. and Ocean's Twelve probably won't do much either.

He's very personable in the right role. Search: Snatch, Twelve Monkeys, Se7en and of course Fight Club.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Dude, how can it lower your regard? :-) Only if you haven't seen Meet Joe Black, I guess. Actually I think he was *pretty* okay in Troy. I like his acting method:it's as if he really doesn't give a shit, not doing a *job* (like Bob DeNiro sometimes painfully likes to put across).

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:45 (nineteen years ago) link

I aspire to one day get David Bowie and Brad Pitt to come over and chill out with me. It would be the grandest day ever.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:45 (nineteen years ago) link

Classic. He was brilliant in True Romance. "don't fuckin condescend me man, I'll fuck...in kill you."

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:48 (nineteen years ago) link

He's been slowly degenerating into a massive dud ever since he got together with that 4nist0n hag. Actually, make that P4ltr0w. As time passes he becomes more infatuated with his physique than with his acting career, which up to the moment had been a choice blueprint in how to choice pick one's roles. (Jump to cue: CAN YOU BLAME HIM?!! HE'S SOOO HAWT)

As if it already weren't clear, I despise Friends with all my being. Even as funny as it can be, every now and then.

Fr4ncis W4tlingt0n (Francis Watlington), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:49 (nineteen years ago) link

I think the only "brad pitt movie" I've seen as such was something called...Johnny Suede? I think? It was strange and poorly paced. He was kinda rockabilly.

From Johnny Suede, A River Runs Through It, Cool World, Thelma and Louise, Kalifornia, True Romance, Interview with the Vampire, Fight Club, Meet Joe Black, 12 Monkeys, Seven, and Legends of the Fall to The Mexican, Spy Game, Ocean's Eleven, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Troy, and...AND FRIENDS...well, I mean, now that I look at that list, it ain't half bad (or bad at all, actually, being as I always overreact)...but it still doesn't erase the fact I'm bitter he's become more commercial. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I used to await his new movies as a thrilled fan, in awe of his mock diversity and well, fervently enamoured by his slack coolness. But now, he's just another Hollywood pinup boy. Actually, THE prototypical Hollywood pinup boy. Another rebel co-opted!

He was always a pinup, though. His role in Thelma & Louise = a bit of rough.

Also I thought Meet Joe Black was shit and subjectively 10 hours long? Not that I've seen it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh come on. Rebel or no, who wouldn't jump at the chance ot star in a film like Troy? That kind of shit is a) a goldmine and b) must be shitloads of fun to do.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Andrew, in case nobody told you, I was PUTTING YOU ON with that last line, MAN!!!

Fr4ncis W4tlington (Francis Watlington), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Did I not mention I'm a bit drunk? I'm sure I did.

brad pitt? commercial?

shocked! (amateurist), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:18 (nineteen years ago) link

He's too pretty, its hard for a bloke to like a pretty-boy onscreen.

He can only do two things as an actor : play a cool character - basically cos he looks so good (see Oceans Eleven where all he does is pose in nice clothes and act cool, also Fight Club) and play a dumb character (see Seven, True Romance, etc).

His accent in Snatch : perfect. He's playing an Irish traveller, and though he;s sposed to be incomprehensible to US and UK ears, to me it was all pretty easy to understand. But the accent is OTM.

David Nolan (David N.), Friday, 4 June 2004 23:10 (nineteen years ago) link

he's not big because of anything having to do with "acting skills". he's a pretty boy movie star! though he's not a bad actor i guess.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 5 June 2004 00:45 (nineteen years ago) link

Meet Joe Black sucked though, which is surprising as I'm a girl!

do WHAT now? that's exactly the kind of thinking that makes me unhappy to be a girl, and even unhappier to have liked der Pitt in Fight Club

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Saturday, 5 June 2004 03:10 (nineteen years ago) link

The fact that Brad Pitt is goodlooking is neither here nor there, and me being a girl doesn't have any influence on what films I like.
Or, what Donna said.

Brad Pitt, for what it's worth, is shit at accents (The Devil's Own, Snatch, Seven Years in Tibet) but by and large makes some decent films. There are far worse films in the world than Meet Joe Black.

Why all the love for his cameo in Friends though? His comedic skills were a bit lame, I thought.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 June 2004 12:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Watson OTM. Pitt showed himself up a bit in Friends - only the great writing and supporting cast saved him.

Just watched Val Kilmer in an old Saturday Night Live sketch - he really IS a great comedic actor.

Pitt always looks like he's got a little packet of spit just behind his lips, like he's dipping, or like he's just on the verge of really pursing them and letting a little clear arc of spit fly.

In Troy he was sullen, pouty, and annoying. Him and Ornaldo drug down the whole movie.

I knew an Irish traveller in Souh London and I'm convinced Pitt spent a month drinking with him to perfect his pikey accent for Snatch, which he absolutely nailed. The only words I could ever make out that this bloke said were "Hold up! Now will ye buy the pony?" - which he said every five minutes when he was drunk (i.e. every five minutes all day every day).

Johnny Suede "QUIFFTASTIC!" - I think this was the first film I ever watched on LaserDisc.
