FAP Hackney? 10th, 11th or 12th June?

Hey, I'm house-sitting in Hackney from now until Sunday night. I know it's short notice but does anyone want to get together for a drink and explore the pubs of Hackney? Maybe Saturday, maybe even Sunday afternoon for a pub lunch and some light drinking? Anyone know any good pubs around the intersection of Graham Rd and Mare St?

Also, what's good to do in Hackney? I'm about to go and hit the Primark if I can pry myself away from the broadband and the 666 channels of digital TV.

I knew I was unpopular on ILX, but this is ridiculous. Don't all leap at once.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:44 (nineteen years ago) link

most Londoners have gone home for the evening petal. i would join you but you wouldn't want that as i will doubtless be blathering non-stop about that sport you despise so much - a big tournament in which is starting this weekend (you might want to choose a pub that doesn't have a TV etc.)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:48 (nineteen years ago) link

I still love ya kate...
I'm around this weekend but I'm trying my damndest (sp?) to keep myself in exile so i can save cash money and my poor liver before Glasto.

But screw that... I could be up for some Sunday pub action - any nice outdoor beer gardens there? I don't know what part of Hackney you're in and I realise it's quite big...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:52 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll be in Glasgow. Otherwise I'd tag along.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:56 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm booked on Sunday, and will want to watch the football on Saturday, so I don't think I can join this, since any pubs Kate chooses are unlikely to be footballcentric.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:05 (nineteen years ago) link

I know nothing about the pubs in this area! I've never spent any time here before! It's Hackney Central, though. I found a whole garage full of 38s hiding out, but the Primark was closed. There looked like a couple of places with outdoor drinking, I'm not really into drinking loads, but some shandys and some lunch on Sunday afternoon if the weather stays nice were what I had in mind, Rob.

More reasons to hate football, etc. it just makes people so damned unsociable.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:22 (nineteen years ago) link

the football lovers disagree vehemently with your last point of course. have a nice weekend tho ok?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:34 (nineteen years ago) link

it's not even on around Sunday lunchtime anyway but looks like i am gonna be on the other side of the city regardless

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Argh sorry Kate my entire weekend is going to be eaten by my house move and hanging out with my new flatmate. This might also involve watching a certain popular sporting event, but I probably wouldn't be able to make it regardless.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 June 2004 18:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, you guys are all "Oh, you're a Zone 1 snob, Hackney's GRATE!!!" on the London Hate thread, but the moment I suggest that you all maybe actually GO out there...

Humph!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:23 (nineteen years ago) link

sorry Kate, I'm fully booked all weekend too (and not just football) but if you want nice booze and beer (but not cheap) the Dove on Broadway (is that right? it starts with Broad anyway) market is nice (in fact all things down there are pleasant - G to thread)

chris (chris), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Dave Stelfox to thread - surely he can recommend a pub or two!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Where I will go. And sit by myself. Because I have no friends and I can't even organise a pissup in a brewery, and now I'm really wishing I hadn't started this thread because there's nothing like the social humiliation of realising that everyone else has lives and shit and you're a big fat social failure on every level and I should probably stop this now because I didn't get any sleep and I'm just descending into maudlin self pity and depression.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Sorry, i didn't mean that & you know it. it's nowt to do with you hun & you know that too, it's just ppl can't get to Hackney or are otherwise engaged. Pls don't take it to heart.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:53 (nineteen years ago) link

it's not that people have lives, it's just that it's football is all. Don't take it personally, please

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm sorry, I'm feeling really fragile at the moment. Yeah, moreso than usual, for obvious dumb reasons.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 07:57 (nineteen years ago) link

Those reasons arent dumb petal, they are understandable. *hugs*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:16 (nineteen years ago) link

i live there. it's great.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:33 (nineteen years ago) link

and there are nice pubs

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:34 (nineteen years ago) link

go to the dove on broadway market, there's no tv. sounds like you're house-sitting within 2 minutes of me. sadly i'm fully booked this w/end but, i'll meet you for a quick pint at some stage, if you like.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Pub on the Park in London Fields is OK. They will be showing football Saturday & Sunday late afternoon / evening, but it has a terrace if you wish to get away from it.

Hackney Central is OK for snacks (the old rail station building), but I would head to 'The Pearl of Hackney', Broadway Market as stated above. There are other cafes / pubs / restaurants alongside the Dove (which itself, is lovely). Great market tomorrow morning too.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 09:29 (nineteen years ago) link

i will be seen buying cheese on broadway market tomorrow, if anyone wishes to stalk me.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 09:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I was going to suggest the Dove as well: it's lovely and has tasty posh pick-me-up beers.

Sorry Kate love, can't do this weekend - we will be broiling nicely in Barcelona as of tomorrow evening. Take care and enjoy the house-sitting.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 11 June 2004 09:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Eh, I'm pretty sure I'll be mostly free over the weekend - it'd be good to see you, Kate.

cis (cis), Friday, 11 June 2004 09:56 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm semi-booked for sunday day and evening, but would be happy to come to the land of hackney on saturday afternoon at some point. i'd like to go to the cheap shoe store next to primark, and then we could get food or drinks somewhere...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:35 (nineteen years ago) link

OK, if shopping is more people's pleasure, perhaps Saturday market, some Primark shopping and a pint at the Dove would be amenable? Sound good, Cis, Colette?

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:38 (nineteen years ago) link

you are both welcome to stalk me, if you wish

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:49 (nineteen years ago) link

on a serious not, though. if yr doing the market and the dove i may well be able to make it for a quick drink... haircuts and all sorts of other stuff permitting

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Dave, you have my mobile number, right? I don't think I have yours. Nope, I don't. If you email me yer mob, I could text you when we set out, and you could give us clues where to look and stuff... ;-)

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:53 (nineteen years ago) link

okay - being stalked will make me look very cool and important, so it's a good idea

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 10:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I shall be in Broadway Market tomorrow morning. I've not met any of you, so if you name a time and pub I will pop along for a drink.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Dave does a baby-fap shocka!! ;-)

it's not really though is it - i'm just letting people follow me

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, I'm taking Dave's word for it that the Dove is OK, so that is the place. Time depends on what time we all get out of bed. Which in my case depends on what time the random drunken shouting B&T types shut the fuck up and let me get some sleep. Is the Broadway Market a morning only market or does it go into the afternoon?

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:02 (nineteen years ago) link

it's open till the afternoon. the dove is good, it has seats outside and does great belgian beer

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Technically it's on until about 5pm. Most of the stuff is gone by about 1pm.

I can vouch for the Dove too. It's nooky at the back. And there's a box of games like Connect 4. In fact my first proper date with my girlfriend was in The Dove.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:08 (nineteen years ago) link

MG: nooky at the back?

On a first date?

Tim (Tim), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:09 (nineteen years ago) link

Your mind is swimming in filth. I meant in a nook and cranny stylee.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:11 (nineteen years ago) link

That's why Dave lives in Hackney!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:15 (nineteen years ago) link

hey, i'm just around the corner from here! i'm busy tomorrow for most of the day helping Huey move house, but I might be around before Magnetic Fields tomorrow late afternoon/early evening, and Sunday arvo's a definite possibility too. Txt me darl...I know pubs. Many pubs.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Txt me darl
Are you a girl? (sorry)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:21 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, i'd rather keep this a 'when i wake up i'll be along' kind of thing, but could be talked into setting a time and place. although i'm not sure if i could get to the broadway market on my own without getting lost...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:24 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't actually know where Broadway Market is, either. But the flat where I'm house-sitting is right on the 38, so just get here and we'll A to Z it.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Broadway Market is pretty much slap-bang between Bethnal Green tube and the corner of Graham Road and Mare St, thus probably quite a handy mid-point meeting point innit.

And no, I'm not (much of) a girl, Pinkpanther, although I believe you might be..?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Nah I'm only joking, I know you're a boy, it's just exactly the sort of thing I'd say! Sorry, just bored at work & messing on ILX! And yeah, I'm all woman! heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 11:32 (nineteen years ago) link

Please, let's NOT wait till nearer the time this time? Because that's how my time gets eaten up with other obligations! OK, fair enough, it was usually Joe making those other obligations without telling me, but advance warning is better in these things.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:27 (nineteen years ago) link

sorry i'm not going to make it - however, if you get up early and fancy making a journey across london, i would still be happy for you to stalk me.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Well then start a thread about it kate, but i am sure it will be lost this early. Don't worry i'll remind you!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:30 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm not coming either, but I will be shopping at Broadway Market in the morning if you get bored of stalking Dave.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:35 (nineteen years ago) link

You should start the thread, Pink! It's your FAP, and besides, I've started, like, three threads today! The key to it not disappearing, I think, is having Stevem put it on the ILX calendar.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Now I'm confused. Coming where? We're not about the stalking, we're all about the SHOPPING.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:36 (nineteen years ago) link

No it's not my fap, I just want y'all to come punting in cambridge!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:43 (nineteen years ago) link

You don't come to Hackney to shop. It simply isn't tolerated.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:46 (nineteen years ago) link

We shall be iconclasts, then. Or possibly chased out of town by irate locals.

cis (cis), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:51 (nineteen years ago) link

No, we will just be hit about the head and shoulders by locals in the Primark for scoring the good bargains first!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:51 (nineteen years ago) link

I also wonder if I should buy a laundry basket. I'm under the bizarre delusion that a laundry basket might help save my marriage.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Indeed!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Good choice. When my girlfriend annoys me, that's where I put her.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Can we wait until Monday to set a date for the Cambridge FAP (this MUST involve punting)?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:10 (nineteen years ago) link

i think we should put the date in our diaries, start a thread, and stick to the date. if all else fails, we can have a small trip to cambridge. otherwise, we can maybe have a decent sized-fap. weekends do tend to get booked up ages in advance, if we book it now then people can plan ahead...

kate, what's with the laundry basket?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Also, towards the end of July, the evil spectre of TRIG BROTHER will be rearing its ugly runious head. Best to keep that in mind...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't use a laundry basket. I floorganise clothes like my mum taught me. Dirty stuff on the floor in a pile, clean just out of the washing machine clothes in the closet, and stuff you've worn once but could probably get away with wearing again draped over the back of random chairs.

Several times Joe has got on my case about cleaning up the bedroom, and I've explained to him about floorganising. It was one of the things he brought up in our huge blowout fight. You know, it's not *that* big a deal. I prefer to floorganise, but if it takes getting a laundry basket like him to save our marriage, I'd do it.

(Though I suspect that the laundry basket is just one more symptom, I don't know, he just wants *everything* I do to be the way he says, so I get passive aggressive about little things I can control, like what I do with my laundry.)

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:18 (nineteen years ago) link

No, no, he doesn't care if they're washed, it's not a hassle doing it. I just like them on the floor and he likes them in a basket; a rug would not be a solution.

(One of the solutions would be HIM GETTING HIS CLOTHES OUT OF THE WASHING MACHINE WHEN THEY'RE DONE, INSTEAD OF LETTING THEM SIT THERE FOR DAYS, SO I CAN ALSO USE THE WASHING MACHINE but that is a particular pet peeve of mine.)

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm in a pissy mood now, so I think I'm going to try to walk back to Hackney. Wow, it looks like a long way, how long before I give up and take the bus. Cis, Colette, message me when you're on your way. Anyone else who wants to be stalked, email me your mobile number and we will make arrangements. I'm not unpopular, I'm just exclusive. Hah.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:25 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm going with some friends to the LIFT fireworks extravaganza in Victoria Park on Saturday evening. More info: www.liftfest.org and look for lift 2004, groupe f. The plan is to be in The Crown from 7pm ish and then move into Vic Park for a picnic and then fireworks.

Daniel (dancity), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Hmmm. I'm not sure we're still going to be out drinking that late. We have however just finished with Primark (ohmigod, spent too much money but too cute clothes) and are now heading down to Broadway Market if anyone would like to join us in the Pub!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 12:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Heh heh. Spent most of the afternoon sitting in the sun/cloud/sun/cloud/no, so again, discussing whether or not the various cute boys that passed by highlighted their hair or if it was natural. It's nice to know I still have a libido.

Then I walked to Hackney Marsh. What a strange, beautiful, godforsaken sort of place. It was totally deserted. I can't remember the last time I saw a space that large so empty of people in London. And the River Lea on one side the Lee River Naviation on the other. Lee and Lea in perfect harmoneeeeee. Hackney looks like it was once very beautiful. Especially Sutton House and Sutton Place.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Saturday, 12 June 2004 18:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Oooh! I'm in Sutton Place right now. What a small world

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Sunday, 13 June 2004 16:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Do you live in Sutton Place? You lucky dog! (unless you have some kind of mobile connection.) It's really lovely! The spooky churchyard with no church left seemed to be like a corridor through another time. The sort of place where you're not sure if you're going to encounter a modern crack dealer or an 18th Century grave robber.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 07:46 (nineteen years ago) link

So what did you buy K?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:12 (nineteen years ago) link

and now matt dc should be prepared to set a date for the cambridge FAP...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I knew you were going to ask that, Pink! I was about to write you an email about it. I bought two pairs of very plain work trousers, one in blue, one in black. A couple of flirty, stripey, button-down summer shirts, and, on Colette's provocation a rather tight and possibly sexy pale blue tank-top/vest/wifebeater thing which I was VERY uncertain of due to Fear Of Log-Arm but which actually made Joe run up and start humping my leg like a dog when I came home wearing it. So there you go.

x-post, Colette, are you going to share your Primark purchases with the class? ;-)

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:16 (nineteen years ago) link

sure, but they weren't very interesting. about 6 or 7 tshirts (i'm wearing the only crew-neck one today, in a bright pale teal, if that makes any sense), 6 pairs of socks, 2 vests, a 3-pack of pants and 2 bra/pant sets.

i really love that store.

kate's stripey shirts are cool, and she bought clothes in color! wow!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I am actually wearing an all Primark outfit right now! (Blue work trousers and a mock Fred Perry style shirt) Oh, I forgot I bought blue pants as well. Everything I bought was blue, except one of the stripey shirts was pale purple and blue stripes. I'm trying to get into this "wearing colours" thing again, since all my fat clothes are black.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:24 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, and Colette you forgot to tell about the spotted pointilist shirt! I liked that one a lot!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Woo for colour! (sorry to be so predictable K! ;-) It's just that I am so broke that I have to live my retail addiction through others!) They all sound like lubberly purchases.
K-write me an email about your w/e & what happened with J's return to the flat, if you know what I mean.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:26 (nineteen years ago) link

I will write you a full explanation when I've finished running my reports! (Which means I should stop mucking about on ILX, seriously.)

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Sutton House incorrectly promotes itself as the oldest house in the east end. The Ancient House in Walthamstow is far older.

I was over Hackney Marshes yesterday. There were turtles on the non-navigable arm of the river. And dragonflies bombarding the water.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Turtles! I saw only a dog! I wish I'd seen the turtles. The non-navigable River Lee or Lea is possibly one of the most beautiful spots in London.

Is Walthamstowe actually East End, though? Isn't Walthamstowe near Waltham Cross and actually recently swallowed Essex? I should look it up in the A to Z to correct my geography.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Walthamstow is about 7 miles from Waltham cross, is inside the 406 and has an E postcode. It's North east London really though.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Thanks, Chris. So the answer is, yessssss technically, but not really.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes it is technically East London. Used to be part of Essex before the shake up last century.

The division between London and Essex was originally the Lea.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:53 (nineteen years ago) link

So, is Walthamstowe on the other side of the River Lee or Lea, then? In that case, even if it's technically East London, it's still Essex and doesn't count. And how Ancient is this Ancient House, anyway? Is it justifiably Ancient? More ancient than Henry VIII?

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Cambridge - Fancy A Punt?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 14 June 2004 08:56 (nineteen years ago) link

http://www.lbwf.gov.uk/environment/design_awards/design_awards_ancient_hse.stm

It says 15th century in this link, but I think it is actually early sixteenth. Walthamstow is now firmly East London and Sutton House should quietly drop their claim.

Back in even older days, the Lea / Lee was the division between the Saxons and Danelaw.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 14 June 2004 09:03 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm trying to remember which river was the division between the Saxons and the Romano-Celts, but I think it was one of the burried ones.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 09:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Does East End = East London? I always thought it meant the chunk nearest the city. You wouldn't talk about Ladbroke Grove or Shepheds Bush being West End would you?

I'm not sure how this works exactly.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 14 June 2004 09:07 (nineteen years ago) link

I always thought East End meant pretty much anywhere in East London, but West End is a very specific bit of Central London between, arbitrarily speaking, Aldwych and Marble Arch.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 14 June 2004 09:10 (nineteen years ago) link

I think that Tim's right. I generally think of the East End as being the strip between Tower and the course of the old wall on the west and the river Lee or Lea on the East.

But I can't remember if Sutton House advertises itself as "the oldest house in the East End" (which it might well be) or "the oldest house in East London" (which would be this justified and ancient house of Walthamstowe.)

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 14 June 2004 09:12 (nineteen years ago) link

There are various definitions, but as a general rule, the E postcode prefix is the best guide. The notion of what constitutes the east end has changed over the years as local government was reorganised and with the post war housing boom. Traditionally it meant to the east of the City (i.e Whitechappell, Shoreditch etc), but only because beyond these places were fields.

Most of what is now the east end was Essex. East Ham, West Ham, Canning Town, Walthamstow, Leyton, Leytonstone etc etc were all hamlets which were built up after the docks were built.

There was some discussion about this in the papers when Eastenders started. Walford being pretty much a post-war district that would have been east of the Lea.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 14 June 2004 09:17 (nineteen years ago) link

nineteen years pass...

Off to see the Notwist at Earth on Sunday (Hackney) and staying in a Premier Inn in Shoreditch.

Any food recommendations near-ish (more "not a faff" than necessarily close) for an evening meal and then breakfast the next day?

Bit broad but any recommendations for London things at the moment?

djh, Sunday, 12 May 2024 16:30 (two weeks ago) link

Mangal 2 is pretty much opposite your venue, very good turkish place (went from hearty trad food to bourgie small plates but still great eating). Brunswick East does good breakfast.

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 13 May 2024 12:40 (two weeks ago) link

xp The obvious thing to eat near Earth would be Turkish - lots of good Turkish round there. Can't go wrong with Mangal 1 (quite trad ocakbasi) or Mangal 2 (more hipstery and unusual / cheffy) - the latter less likely to make you so full you want to go to sleep during the show. If you'd rather eat closer to your hotel there are a bunch of good Vietnamese places just round the corner at the bottom of Kingsland Road, which leaves you with a pretty quick and simple bus ride to get to Dalston (the 149 amongst others). But there is a massive amount of choice which qualifies as "nota faff" - if you have anything you would particularly like feel free to narrow it down.
