York - RFI, C/D, S/D

I'm thinking of moving to York in the near future. Can any posters advise me about the place. Cheap housing, places to go, general atmosphere. Heard good things about Stamford Bridge as a place to live, can anyone tell me about it?

I was a student in York. It's a beautiful place, with an atmosphere more of a market town than a city. Whether this is a good thing or not is down to taste...

There are NO good clubs.

There are lots of good pubs.

For a northern city, it's quite southern, in terms of cost of living and general feeling. Very touristy in the summer. Not a great deal of interaction or friendliness between locals and students. Shopping pretty average unless you like historic kitsch.

I don't know that much about the wider area but there is obviously some lovely countryside close by.
