BBC Sport understands that even if any offers were to come in for Rooney, it is unlikely Everton would even consider any deal less than £45m.

Rooney's valuation has rocketed since the start of Euro 2004, and
Everton would be under pressure to accept any offer near the world record of just over £45m, paid by Real Madrid for Zinedine Zidane.

Rocketing since the start of Euro 2004 for his ability to not get sent off, and to cannon shots in off the back of a goalkeeper's head via the post?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

He'll go for around £25-30m, I reckon. A couple of months ago it was strongly rumoured he was off to United, but that really depends on how keen he really is to go to Old Trafford in particular, seeing as Chelsea have rather deeper pockets.

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

good, but probably a bit over-rated. i don't think he is in the "superstar" class (yet) and is likely to follow in Owen's footsteps. his temper is obviously his biggest achilles heel at the moment. he seems to be rather easily goaded and makes careless decisions.

gizmo (gizmo), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Playing the "he's absolutely not for sale - but if you were to break the world transfer record..." game is one that Roman Ab might go for out of sheer bloody-mindedness. Everton would hopefully be transformed by that kind of money and - is this right? - be due a cut of further transfer moves cos he's under 21.

And yet...I don't want him to leave (though we just had our worse ever Premiership season with him a regular starter). I think he'll be incredible by the time he's 22, 23.

I'd pay a dollar to sit on her sofa.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 18 June 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that Rooney's
very volatility
makes him a huge draw

therefore clubs will toss
pounds dollars shekels and gold
at his wedge-like feet

That actually is perfect; it looks totally real.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Saturday, 19 June 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Portsmouth's 21 year old striker Yakuba is better than Rooney

The Yak's record
Played 35 premiership games, 16 goals

also at the start of last season the Yak was recovering from Malaria, and was new to the premiership. However the second half the season he was sensational.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 June 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Mourinho going to get a say in all this?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

No, the mercenary Keynon calls the shots - he wants as many big name "football brands" [read: big time charlies] as possible at Chelsea

Petr Cech [goalkeeper] 10-12 Million?
Deko : 20 Million?
That Portugal/ Porto Right Back X million?

possibles
Steevie G 40 Million?
Rooney 45 Million?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

deco, please.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"That Portugal/ Porto Right Back" - the footballing brand that's sweeping the globe.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

look here, i was too lazy to google the spelling

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

If you can't be bothered, will the kids?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

the only Chelsea concern i have - is another year for Smertin at Pompey

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Won't Mourinho be out the door pretty smartish unless he gets to choose the players he wants (inc. making a net decrease in the size of the squad)?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't like k where c should be. I wouldn't correct your spelling for anything but aesthetics, I'm not that kind of dick. (cf: ts: mollusk Vs. mollusc.)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

coming to Chelsea soon - the big summer sale/ and cheap subsidized loans

applications welcome from
premiership, seria a, bundesleague, la liga and Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers etc

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 19 June 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ray Stubbs on Football Focus today "has anyone suggested to Abramovich that Larsson would be the perfect strike partner for Rooney?".

Yeah, because (i) Rooney doesn't play for Chelsea, (ii) Abramovich ain't the manager anyway, (iii) Larsson doesn't want to play in England and (iv) I'll be miffed if Celtic could have had stupidly large wads of Abramovich's money and don't get any. I still maintain Celtic should have sold Larsson when they would still have got money for him. He's not been that indispensable this year.

(though, I think Larsson + Rooney = not a bad partnership)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 19 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Tracer Hand, I owe you a pint for that.
