JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

do you use it while mixing boredoms and black dice?

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude get one of these yo!:
http://www.staticmultimedia.com/images/gear_airsynth.jpg
They're controlled by waving your hand around over a three-way axis of infrared beams! They make all kinds of cool noises! They're only like $75-100 (US)!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

is that just a light theremin? you can get those for $30

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The airsynth isn't just a light theramin. The system it uses to track is different.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The one I think is really slick is the effects processor that uses the same system so you can fuck with flangers and phasers and shit using your hand as a controller. I forget what it's called, but Alesis makes it as well... It looks just like the airsynth only it's blue instead of red.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

martin: there's a company that makes these that let you control any voltage controlled pedal with one

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hrm. Did you say ANY voltage controlled effect?

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

yes

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.frostwave.com/spacebeam/

The spaceBEAM can be used to control a monosynth with a CV and gate input,
such as a Roland SH-101.

The CV output can also be used to control effect units having a CV input, such as the Frostwave Blue Ringer ring modulator, or the Frostwave Resonator filter unit

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm. Perhaps now it may be time to put CV inputs on some effects that don't have them already.

Bah. Too many new ideas and not enough time to actually complete them.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

martin, is there a guide to doing that?!@?! fuck!

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the sound affects shitty mixers have on them, lazer, ufo, siren, machine gun. If you want the real deal, these are pretty limited, but authentic:

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin that's the AirFX! I used to have both and ran the AirSynth through the AirFX! I felt like a fucking wizard waving my hands around and shit!

Most phototheremins are based on light waves, and these are based on ifrared beams! INFRARED! THE FUTURE IS NOW! I AM ADDICTED TO THE EXCLAMATION POINT!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 18 June 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

less talk, more wav's.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

martin, is there a guide to doing that

Not that I know of, Jon, but how hard can it be? Control-Voltage is a simple concept, and provided you can make a little circuit for it, you should be able to replace any pot or switch with a CV input that controls the same parameter.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to get an AirFX now. I remember when they first came out I thought it looked like a really fun thing to mess with, but it was too pricey for something I wasn't sure I'd actually use. I messed with one at a music store briefly, but then I kinda forgot about it.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 18 June 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

my friend's Moog had a CV gate input... somehow we got a microphone to control the modulation.. freaky
