To distinguish myself from a sea-otter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I never talk. I only post on ilx, occasionally.
(I dont peepee or poopoo, either)
(Which must be because I dont eat or drink)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Because talking often leads to laughing, and laughing is ace.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i talk in order to ask you to come to optimo on sunday.

"come to optimo on sunday, cozen"

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

laughing is amazing.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 19 June 2004 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 19 June 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

for a living.

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Saturday, 19 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Talking is key and urgent. I could say more, but it would reveal areas of my life I would prefer not to blurt out here on ILE without much greater motivation and deeper consideration.

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 19 June 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I speak for the trees for the trees have no tongues

autovac (autovac), Sunday, 20 June 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Except for that Treebeard in LOTR, omg roffle!

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 20 June 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

please kill me.

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 20 June 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

youn, Sunday, 20 June 2004 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

because if i couldnt argue with/make fun of dumb people, my head would explode

todd swiss (eliti), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i talk to hear the sound of my own voice, even though its rather grating.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to hear your voice, Lady Ms. Lurex! I will be able to hear you on the internet shortly, no? I am planning to stay up for this!

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

prepare to be danced on your computer stool, mr diamond. please excuse any dead air, needle-bumpings, and foolish stuttering.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Excellent!!

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i am serious about the grating-voice thing. its practically hereditary on my mother's side. the older we wilson women get, the more we sound like shrieking harpies. when i start to sound like my grandmother, i'm going to rip my own tongue out.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe by that time you can have it surgically altered to sound faboulously sexy. or however you mightwant it to sound.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Di does not sound like a shrieking harpy in my recollection. Anyway I think strident can be good.

I talk lots when I have a point to make. And also to find out what other people are thinking. And sometimes in support of other people who I think are getting trodden on but are not much for talking. Or to fill in akward moments (which is also about supporting other people).

isadora (isadora), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

rob i am not DJing. i apologise. long story can be found on the kiwi-aussie thread.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw no :((

I just turned it on.. Damn. I'm bummed out! I was looking forward to the Ms. Lurex rock. Yeah, I don't no what these dudes are playing; it sounds ok. but it's not my lady ms. lurex, dammit! Hopefully you can do it some other weekend!

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i'll let you know when my next show is. at the moment its just the dumb old radio one computer. they mostly have shite on there.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I am unsure whether this question is logically equivalent to "Why don't you just shut the fuck up?" but just in case it is, I am being offended anyway.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 20 June 2004 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Because I can.

Bill Clint0n (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 20 June 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to stop talking altogether once when I took a course and realized *cough* that probably all communication is subject to misinterpretation and thus is ultimately useless. But that seemed awfully melodramatic and unoriginal so I got over it.

mouse, Sunday, 20 June 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

subject to misinterpretation != ultimately useless. Not even close.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 20 June 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Well it was more of the idea that if you can never be sure if someone else is mapping the words onto the same ideas and concepts that you are then you can't ever really communicate with them. Like I said, I got over it.

mouse, Sunday, 20 June 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

subject to misinterpretation = creative?

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 20 June 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Only to say my name, rank and number.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Sunday, 20 June 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

'cause my dad's not around to make fun of me or to tell me to shut up. Oh, happy Father's Day, BTW

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
blimey

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

i'm so much more nonverbal than i used to be, and i've taken more of an interest in nonverbal forms of expression (like the visual arts).

it's almost physically unbearable to listen to people who talk too much, or talk very loudly. unless they're saying something interesting, which they're usually not, at all. they're just scary and high-strung.

'you' vs. 'city hall' FITE (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

i try not to.

jeffrey (johnson), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

i don't talk so i can listen to my brane.

'you' vs. 'city hall' FITE (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 24 November 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

If I could still mine, I would but do the same! :/

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 November 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

I learned in my linguistics class that people talk not to impart information (which I thought was the purpose) but to create and maintain social relationships. Now I try to do that when I talk instead. I think it makes me more agreeable.

Mickey (modestmickey), Thursday, 24 November 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

mickey, how many times did people make the "cunning linguist" pun in that class?

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 24 November 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

The students at my school aren't quite that witty. The professor's a bitch too.

Mickey (modestmickey), Thursday, 24 November 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

peer pressure (oops OTM)
