Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 20 June 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You're becoming a square!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 20 June 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't afford anything, so it's irrelevant anyway - but is that Spaceranger left-handed?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 20 June 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, it's a rightie. I love that guitar. [sniff] But seriously, I have no use for this stuff anymore. I'll leave the rock n' roll to the kids.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 20 June 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron I'm definitely interested in the Tele. Is it still available?

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 20 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

also wouldn't mind having a look at the Spaceranger, too.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 20 June 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Sweet... I think I've sold the Spaceranger. I'll drop you an email about the Tele.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

coolness!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

which l-school you going to, aaron?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

oh! I got into Brooklyn... Still waitlisted at Cardozo but feeling really good about Brooklyn. I can't believe it starts on Aug 15 though. I'm gonna miss Lollapalooza (dude).

hstencil- you got mail

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

congratulations! now kick some 1L ass, make law review, etc.

(i'd stick w/ brooklyn, even if cardozo takes you off its waitlist.)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

a Cardozo prof I met recently (ie. a couple months ago at a party) totally badmouthed the place.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

as do certain cardozo alumni i know. brooklyn law's students are a bit more mellow and less cutthroat competitive (AND in a nicer part of town). reputation- and placement-wise in NYC, they're about equal.

you'll get a good education at either place. and congrats again!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 21 June 2004 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO LIVE IN AMERICA?!?!?

This just isn't fair.

I want this:

Electro-Harmonix Memory Man Memoryman Delay - $125

And possibly also the Juno (is the 106 comparable to or better than the Juno 6?)

With the exchange rate, that's practically pocket change! Oh, yeah, except I forgot, I'm moving soon and will probably have to sell my own amps and some of my pedals because I don't have the space for them. Waaaaahhhhh!

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:02 (twenty-two years ago)

You're gonna regret this sooo hard, dude. Keep some equipment around. My grades were ALWAYS better when I was in a band.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 21 June 2004 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I know I know...I'm keeping my acoustic. I seriously haven't played most of this other stuff in a year.

Anyway, Kate, lemme know if you want the keyboard.... It's still available as of now.

stencil- Someone's asking me about the Tele. Get in touch if you're intereted.

I think I priced this stuff super low. I've literally got 25 people asking me about the Shure mic.

Oh, and yeah, feel really good about Brooklyn over Cardozo. Everything at Brooklyn is super loyal and say great things about the place.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

aaron: i'm starting new york law school in the fall too.

not selling ANY music shit because i'm going to try and still play music.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Aaron, it would just cost too much to ship the thing to the UK. :-(

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, I would love the Roland but I can't afford it right now. I'm sure the shipping would be a killer, too.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

law graduates here:

any advice for aaron and i?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron - will email you today, I think Wednesday might be the earliest I could see it, but I could probably pay cash if that helps.

Kate - how much do Memory Mans retail for? I thought it was around $125, right? I'd buy Aaron's but my ladyfriend has one already...

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

*tempted*

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

My law school advice is always the same:

1. pay no attention to your colleagues who are acting like it's the toughest thing in the world. It isn't -- law school is easy.

2. You can drop out any time in the first two years if you hate it, and your life will not be ruined.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

a Cardozo prof I met recently (ie. a couple months ago at a party) totally badmouthed the place. Who was this? (no names, obv.) M or F? Research area? I know someone who teaches there. Hummmm.

Skottie, Monday, 21 June 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea how much Memory Mans go for in the States any more, Stence! In the UK, you can generally just take US prices and stick a pound sign in front of them, but that's no indication of what it is the other way around. :-(

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

If I could remember the prof's name, I still wouldn't name it. It's not like the comments were meant for public dispersal.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not a lawyer, but I play one on TV...okay not that either, but I've spent years around them for various reasons. My 2cent...

1. pay no attention to your colleagues who are acting like it's the toughest thing in the world. Doubleplus on the money. Wht your colleagues are doing is utter irrelevant.
2. You have 3 jobs, one may be out of your hands already.
a. go to the best law school you can as determined by accepted rankings. Do not play games like "I can get a good education anywhere." It's merely a credential, you'll learn nothing related to the practice of law in law school (unless you go to a bad school). Go for the best credential. EXCEPTION: if you plan to live all your life in Omaha/Jackson/Nashville, you can go to U of Nebraska/Mississippi/Tennessee.
b. Your two goals IN law school: if you have to get competitive, get competitive re: law review. It seems to matter for some reason. Different schools choose the editor different ways. Be the editor. If not editor, then go down the masthead.
c. Goal two: get the best clerkship you can. It goes in order: Supreme court, federal courts of appeals, federal courts, and on down.

Nothing else matters. Oh, and learn to outline better than I do. But then, I'm not a lawyer.

Skottie, Monday, 21 June 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I said no names, h.

Skottie, Monday, 21 June 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

well maybe I should just out the prof's stats then, yeah that'd be a good idea.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like that.

Skottie, Monday, 21 June 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Memory Man's list for $300, but Musician's Friend has them for $220:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040621075516068167079158667543/g=home/search/detail/base_id/38122

Good luck Cutty! We can compare notes. It's been SO long since I decided I wanted to go to law school, started preping for the LSAT, took the LSAT, applied, got waitlisted, got in. I honestly can't wait for school to actually start.

Man, so I'm all ABC (always be closing). Spaceranger, EBow and mic are sold already.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa, I had no idea they were so expensive. That's kinda ridiculous, $300 for a pedal.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

what about any suggestions regarding going part-time/full-time, working part-time, going at night, etc.

first year workload suggests not working at all?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

All the advice I've got is to give law school 100%, especially the first year. Whatever money you'll make will be offset by being distracted... Anyway, that's where my massive student loans come in.

whoa, I had no idea they were so expensive. That's kinda ridiculous, $300 for a pedal.

Analog delay, though (actually has a tape in there). I think they sound amazing. Or at least will in someone else's rig.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not just a pedal. It's a physical tape loop. Freaking crazy thing! I once worked with a guitarist who used one, it was mad, in a really good way.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I like this better, although it's digital and not analog. Ladyfriend just got one, it's awesome.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Those are very very nice as well. But yeah, digital vs analog.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"All the advice I've got is to give law school 100%, especially the first year."

This may be good advice for the first semester, but you need at least a serious hobby by the second semester or you'll go bonkers with boredom.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

::drools::

But what am I talking about? I never use analogue anything any more since I got the laptop. I don't even use any of my pedals for recording, I just use those wonderful Cubase patches.

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm, so is the Memory Man still available? It'd be a squeeze on my non-existent "buy instruments" budget, but that's a great price.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it might actually be going, stence.... Someone's gonna stop by tomorrow eve to take a look at it.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Spaceranger, EBow and Shure mic have all been sold. Looks like the distortion and Memory Man will be gone in the next day or so. Selling like hotcakes!!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

save the Tele for me!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

aaron, those amps are a steal! do you ship to CA?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

G- For sure if you don't mind paying for it. The Vox is great... Makes a really good studio, bedroom amp.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm... i wonder what the most economical yet safest way to ship would be? like a freight forwarder? could you put these on a small pallet and tie/bind them down?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Drop me an email and maybe we can figure something out.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the memory man is not a tape loop, it's(at least the original) is an analog delay with chorus/vibrato and a nice unique sound of it's own. I love mine dearly.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 21 June 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought there's an actual tape look in there, though.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 21 June 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

No tape inside a Memory Man, neither original nor reissue.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Monday, 21 June 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It is an awesome pedal, though.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Monday, 21 June 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i love my BOSS DM-2

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 21 June 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I &heart; my ECHOPLEX

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 21 June 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

uh oh am i going to have to post that space echo pic again

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 21 June 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i, of course, followed precisely 0% of skottie's sage advice and look at where i am (literally across the street from hstencil HAH)

seriously ... EVERYTHING 1L rests on the final exam. get past year exams, and PRACTICE taking them as soon as you have some confidence in the subject matter. key: make sure that you can write the practice exam w/n the time alloted. e.g.: if it says "you have 4 hours to finish this exam," finish it w/n 4 hours (or get to the point where you can).

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

on the other hand, some cardozo alumni i knew just told me that some pfeiffer dude from the wonder years went there (class of '03). dunno if he has a job or where.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

dude don't dis my office.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Eisbar with more good advice.

So uh the Memory Man and the Boss distortion are sold, along with the Space Ranger, EBow and Shure mic (the mic was hella underpriced I guess because I got like 40 emails about it).

Anyhoo, now it's up to stencil and gygax to give the Tele and amps a good home. Heh.

Selling this stuff has been cathartic.
