When I first discovered the wonders of the www, I posted a few times on some AOL music and movie message boards but got quickly tired of it, mostly because it was filled with 12 year olds or people who had strong opinions formed exclusively from other peoples' opinions. Then I checked out the Internet Movie Database message boards, which were a lot better but just not that user friendly. Here everything seems to fall into place nicely...

Warp Records message board and then fucked so many people off I had to start the TEFOSAV message board just so I could post all my crap.

Posting to other boards, C/D?

i have one other board i post regularly on, and one or two others far more sporadically. boards that are moderation-heavy are of little use to me.

ILX has breadth and depth in spades. I haven't posted on the other places in years literally, but just happened to check in on them. The funny thing is on IMDB there's no user names I recognize whilst on the AOL boards it's the same 15 people from when I first posted (and they're all still crowing about how Magnolia is the best movie ever and how great Madonna looks for her age...)

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 21 June 2004 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hrmmm. I used to prefer mailing lists to message boards, but I've completely reversed my opinion on that one. The sheer volume and population of the web has increased, plus also, my browsing habits have changed. I like my web socialising to be a place that I go when I choose to go there, rather than something that comes into my inbox whether I feel in the mood for it or not.

So, sticking to messageboards only... I posted for a long time on various iMusic boards. I only really stopped because they changed the format to make it unreadable in the browser I was using. Then I moved to InsideTheWeb but they closed down right around the time that ILX was really kicking off.

I keep looking for another messageboard, but nothing really satisfies me the way that ILX does in terms of breadth. I don't do well on single topic boards, for obvious reasons, ha ha.

i remember dog latin from the warp boards, ambrose was on there too, and that guy in manchester that began with h or somethinig, we met him at some stereolab show at planet k i think.

i should go on some dance music boards i think, might have a bit more luck IDing the mystery tracks from various tapes

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 21 June 2004 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

happosai or something, i dont know, it was ambrose that knew him

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 21 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to post to the Snopes board when I had a daily access to the InterWeb through my job. Then, for a few years, nothing, because I've never owned a computer and I didn't spend much time online. After I found ILX last year I've been sitting in the university computer classes for worrying amounts of time.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Happosai! I'd completely forgotten about him. He knew everything about IDM ever!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I met Dave B through the Friday Thing board, now inreview.co.uk.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I post to the Knoxville board (knoxshows) less and less as it becomes increasingly retarded day by day. I post to a board called D.Toby that only two people post on. I posted to the blur messageboard something like twice.

There is nothing quite like ILX, is there?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah warpcomm was pretty good. met gareth that way somewhat indirectly

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Arstechnica for geeky stuff.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

ambrose, you wrote a lot of decent stuff on Warpcomm. I remember you getting totally dissed for bigging up the UK Garage scene at one point though. I wrote a lot and I mean A LOT of crap.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah those peeps were stuck in the mud fo'sure. well, fuck the hataz

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

hargh! yeh i think i was one of the hat0rz. I still don't fully understand the appeal of Garage I'm afraid... I like to think I was a little more open minded than some of the freaks on that thing though

yossarian, Monday, 21 June 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I like how the indie rock board on AOL features kids talking about Nirvana and Insane Clown Posse most of the time.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

VengaDan would probably like that.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to be a regular in AOL's spin chatroom. Little known embarassing fact about me.

I sometimes post on Zoetrope -- although it's full of wankers.

Homosexual II, Monday, 21 June 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

spin chatroom?

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I once went into an AOL movie chatroom on a semi-regular basis, until I quickly realized everyone in there went in there every single night for hours on end and either never left the house or were cyber-fucking each other in IM whilst talking about how great Terence Malick is.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I only use http://www.recordoftheday.com/mb cos ILX gives me all I want otherwise, ahhhh.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

Does anyone here read http://www.city-data.com/forum/ ? If you are interested in cities are there any others similar forums you would recommend? (mainly for US, UK or South America)

I post to a board for backpackers, where we may share our strange and outre obsessions. Kinda like ILM, only it's all about alcohol stoves and bearproof canisters. For the curious, it's here.

I post there as Aimless. It's a do-everything, fits anywhere kind of username.

Aimless, Thursday, 10 April 2008 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

Clarification for you European and British type people: what we Yanks generally mean when we say "backpacking" is what you folks usually call "trekking". Or so I hear.

Aimless, Thursday, 10 April 2008 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

I thought trekking was more of a hut-to-hut/supported kinda thing? Maybe that's just a difference of development.

I do not post on any other forums/message boards, unless you count lol daily kos, which I've paid no attention to since 2004.

Have posted on Hi-Fi forums a couple times.
Have posted on IMDB a couple times.
Spent grades 6-8 posting on AOL's X-Files Board.

ILX is for Everything. Who could ask for anything moar?

gabbneb, Thursday, 10 April 2008 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

Everytime I try other forums I flee from fucking phpbb and avatars and sigs. Only forums I'll use are ones where you see the whole thread, and no pissing about. There aren't many left like that. windows 3.1 ftw

stet, Thursday, 10 April 2008 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

For those with the magical key to unlock Google's DejaNews archives, I have a gazillion bodies buried in Usenet groups, dated from before I learned to shield my Real Life Identity somewhat better than I do now. I also have some bodies buried in the Greenspun Lusenet archives.

Actually, nothing much is buried there I wouldn't likely repost, given similar circumstances. It's a lot of tendentious arguments, zippy zings, learned dissertations and such like foofarah.

Nevertheless, these magical keys shall not be posted to ILX.
