That bloke who measures people up for suits in British hotels, then emails the measurements to Hong Kong, where they make you a tailor made suit...

Is he anygood? Are there serious sweatshop issues with his factory? Are they good quality? The prices look great, but I can't decide...

Anyone know anyone who's used these services?

I bought a suit in Bangkok like this (In fact I am wearing the trousers now, fact fans (What is a fact fan anyway? do they have conventions or FAPs where they don't tell jokes to each other?))

They are fine. My tip though is make sure the arms are long enough, the habit seems to be to make them shorter than western tastes like.

Having said all that, I don't know about this bloke but it may well be worth a punt.

Are there serious sweatshop issues with his factory? Do you wear clothing currently? Any clothing at all? Sometimes? Then you already have serious sweat shop issues.

Far more important are taste issues. Don't select any of the crushed velvet swatches no matter how fond you are of Marc Bolan. Don't go with any of the enormous checked patterns so popular with fat Scottish traveling salesmen. Pinstrips that vibrate are simply too bold.

These are your issues.

Actually, go with the checks. And ask about their "Salute to THE PRISONER" special offer.

What measurements do people in Hong Kong email to London, and what do they make with them?

Has anyone actually done this yet?

I had a guy I half-knew here in Bristol mail off my measurements to a guy he knew in Thailand. Because it was sufficiently cheap, I went for something a bit stylised and love it. It came back needing one tiny alteration, but the guy arranging it had an account with another tailor in Bristol who did it for nothing. (So not sure how it would work with 'details to Hong Kong' guy.

That said, I've had suits made in Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka, plus shirts, and I really dislike having to buy them in Britain off the peg (as it's all you can look at to get near to the value). I should really look for Mr Hotel-measure next time he comes round.

a bit stylised I'm a little leery...

I have a suit from a website in Thailand and several shirts.

I have several suits/shirts that were made EXACTLY this way - a guy my father knows travels between London and Hong Kong three or four times a year. The results have varied, but if you find a shirt that you like they are GREAT at copying them.

That way the sweat shops in Hong Kong can pirate much needed business from the sweat shops of Malaysis by making your sweatshirt. Win Win Win
