How are we scoring so many goals when we're still not playing that well?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Rubbish defences?

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a possible. We're also hideously vulnerable from set-pieces, obviously.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

GOD YOU"RE SO FUCKING ENGLISH!!!

You're supposed to be celebrating, not picking your nose.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

At least Rooney doesn't expect to be fed chances on a plate like Owen does; he just gets in there. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayne!

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I am celebrating! I'm having a glass of wine!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I AM HAVING A CANOMILE TEEEEEEEEEEEEEA!

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

in euro 2004, rooney is on fire scoring for england
euro 2000, rooney was a 14 year old school kid
euro 1996, rooney was still in primary school

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What do we think of pairing him up with Vassell as the other starter?

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I'm happy with Owen and Vassell as sub. Owen got involved in a lot of stuff tonight.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Owen is making space for Rooney to exploit, and his passing has been spot-on. His dribbling may be shocking, his finishing woeful, and his pace gone, but he's doing alright.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, Wayne impressed me tonight. His play is good but it was his wealth of intelligence(egads!) which shone through for me. He has a natural understanding of football flow and how to pick the right option at the right time. The header for Scholes was a prime example - how come it took until Hansen at half time for anyone even to mention that contribution?

Owen looks as if he may never score again for England (Hat-trick against Portugal...).

Beckham has been almost anonymous for 3 games now (first England goal aside) (winning free-kick against Portugal...).

Peter Schmeichel is, indeed, a buffoon.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 21 June 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

ally otm. i think people still prefer the other thread tho.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Peter Schmeichel is, indeed, a buffoon.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It was funny when that Swiss kid scored the other night - Motson was like, THERE'S SOMEONE ON PLANET EARTH WHO IS YOUNGER THAN WAYNE ROONEY!!!!!!!!!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm really annoyed about that!

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

about swiss kid or motson?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

or the sea for spawning roonie too early?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Motson suprpassed himself last night by managing to mention 1966 before a ball had been kicked.

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

freddy adu to thread

the leglo (the leglo), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dadaismus! Haha, yes. It's amazing the number of 1966 omens that pop up all the time.

Ally, I agree; Rooney has a great football brain, or a football for a brain, something like that.
