Pet Sematary - classic or dud?

See, I KNOW it's a crap film. The acting is some of the worst in any horror film ever, the dialogue is laugh-out loud hilarious, and the little kid and the cat coming back from the dead are about as scary as one of those plastic spider rings. That said, I always found the flashback scenes - specifically the sister , Zelda, and the story recounted by Herman Munster of the first guy who comes back, who keeps saying "Hate Living!" - scary as shit. Gave me many nightmares as a young Roger. I'm about to watch it on TV right now for the second time in my adult life - should I just go to sleep so I'm well rested for work and my doctor's appointment tomorrow?

The book is better, in my opinion. The movie follows the book very closely (at least as much as possible for a 90-minute movie), but is a piece of crap.

That's my opinion.

Well, hell, I'm watchin' it. I gotta say, I'd forgotten how fantastic an actor Fred Gwynn was. Maybe it's the contrast between his obvious capability and the abhorrent (worse than i remembered) acting of the rest of the cast, but he really does a great job.

Christ, that little girl is the WORST.

God this movie is dumb. So much of how they shot it looks like they had just watched Evil Dead II beforehand.

I had forgotten how much fun Pascow is having in this movie and how tonally off he is from everything else.

Can't explain why but Herman Munster walking through an empty house and going "Gage? Gage?" still cracks me up a little.

I saw this in the theater when it came out and I remember as I was leaving there was a family in front of me with a 7- or 8-year-old girl who was sobbing into her father's shoulder, and I was appalled and amazed that anyone would take a child to it.

"i don't want to live my life again" is such a mysterious, profound line for a band approaching the end of their career

I've heard two people over the last few years cite the greatness of Fred Gwynne's performance in the first PS film, but the film just looks too icky for me.
