Why are music store employees totally screwing with me?

I just spent my entire lunch break driving to and from a music store because I’d called that morning to have a CD put aside (and they had said it was in stock with no hesitation). I get there and the CD is not put aside; there are no copies in stock, and they don't think there have ever been copies in stock. No one remembers me calling, and they all look at me like am I crazy. WTF? Are they totally fucking with me for amusement?

They are music store employees.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

probably not. for most people, it isn't "amusing" to make someone pissed at you.

you went to the wrong record store...?

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I even had the number still in my pocket that I'd called and they said it was correct. I'd spoken to a girl, but the only girl on that morning was the Assistant Manager and she totally denied talking to me.

what music store was it?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps you misdialed. that used to happen quite often at a previous job of mine, people were calling us thinking we were another corporate entity. fun was had with the mistaken callers, i will admit.

hmmmmm. I was gonna say if it was something really stupid they might fuck with you about it, but DJ Shadow doesn't seem like it qualifies as such.

Was this Newbury Comics

BRRRRR (ex machina), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

It was Newbury Comics and they answered the phone by saying, "Newbury Comics." I don't know how they could hoax me unless they could READ MY MIND!?!

Laura E (laurae55), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

They messed something up or decided to keep the cd to buy themselves and are lying to cover their asses. Go back and speak to a manager or the owner, you'll probably get the cd for free out of it.

Some part of me believes that someone saw it and took for himself because he realized it was awesome.

I don't think I'd actually want to go back and make another fuss, esp. since I work retail too and I hate bitchy customers who complain to the manager and demand absurb things.

Laura E (laurae55), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Good idea Jon. I know the girl's name, too.
