You're 24 years old, female, healthy, outgoing and...

you sit home on a saturday night and sharpen a box of coloured pencils to pass the time.

This is what I just did.

Please share your own experiences regarding the getting of a life.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Saturday, 26 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I see, you must all have lives

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Saturday, 26 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sitting up late at night personally replying to every piece of spam in my mailbox

[email protected], Saturday, 26 June 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa, I thought I was bad.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Saturday, 26 June 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to bed at midnight after spending approx 6 hours mucking about on my computer, lay awake for 2 hours then got up, turned on my computer and have now spent another hour changing back all the stuff I altered before.
Fascinating...................

donna (donna), Saturday, 26 June 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll see that, and raise.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

where's my pants

[email protected], Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

You know it's time to get a life when you sit down to dinner with your boyfriend and after struggling to start up a conversation for several minutes, you stammer "...J0hn left ILX today."

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the medication i'm taking has been making me reaaaaaaaaaaaallly tiiiiirrrrrrred so last night in lieu of actually getting a life i took advantage of the situation and got some sleep.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

when you do a google search for "pnwed"

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Got a buffalo chicken pizza, finished Peter Guralnick's Careless Love: The Unmaking Of Elvis Presley, skipped through CD's I'm getting rid so I could figure out which songs to burn once my CD-R works, listened to 5 His Name Is Alive albums I borrowed from the radio station, thought about the band Sloan a lot.

Since "getting a life" would have required me to buy a lot of alcohol, watch two painful alt-country bands and occasionally glance at people that annoy me I'm totally fine with what went down instead.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

...you click on threads like this. Or get hooked on googlewhacking.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Saturday afternoon and you're sitting on the couch posting to ILX instead of going out and doing something. Sigh. HSA wants to see Harry Potter but I've run out of money having spent it on Portabello Rd this morning.

He wants to be me (kate), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I'd actually like to see some examples of what qualifies as "doing something" or "getting a life."

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Joe is rigging up some kind of bizarre experiment involving polarised lenses and goggles. I think that might be "having a life" but if he disappears into the spare toilet - sorry! LABORATORY! - for hours at a go, then I'm not so sure.

He wants to be me (kate), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

when you use the word toilet you mean bathroom right?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

TO THE LABORATORY!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah.. finally the phrase "drop some science" makes total sense.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 26 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Lavatory and Laboratory aren't that different word-wise I guess.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Saturday, 26 June 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always wondered, how exactly do you get a life? Are there like Armenian dudes hawking it from kiosks in Central Park or something?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Saturday, 26 June 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

'BUY ONE LIFE.'

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 26 June 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

...on saturday night you're sitting around dreading work on monday and graduating from college and never having the opportunity for a life again in three more years.

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

... on Saturday night you are watching "Keeping the Faith" on CBS. Ugh. Kill me.

adam (adam), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

...on Saturday night you are weighing the relative merits of watching "America's Funniest Animals" versus going to a midnight screening of Monty Python's Life of Brian. I think I just solved my dilemma.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I've spent a lifetime trying not to be bored. Pretty much that has worked out. But just why do we have to do this? Fuck if I know.

jim wentworth (wench), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Because American culture, at least, has spun such mythology around Saturday night. Anyone who can't get laid find something wild to do is automatically presumed to be a loser.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

hi kate, don't worry, i made CD covers and watched "stayin' alive".

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I have just woken up from a nap that lasted an hour and a half. I missed much of the "prime time" by doing this. I think I deserved it, though, having been a personal nurse all day at the same time that I've been battling a cold. I've been wanting to be in my bedroom all day long so I could -- get this -- sit down, do the online thing, and listen to MP3s. Oh yes, ladies and gents, the fun never starts around here. ;)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh! I could watch Monty Python instead of sitting here freaking out over next semester's schedule and my eventual major...thank you j.lu!

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

...when you're waiting for your friend across the Atlantic to come back from seeing F9/11, in lieu of doing anything useful yourself. Apart from reading the mixtape thread and realising how transparent the last mix cd you sent her was…

carson dial (carson dial), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

...when you click on this thread and get envious of other people.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 27 June 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't mean bathroom, there's no bath in there. Lavatory/Laboratory, what's the difference? Ha ha. Ach well, he eventually moved out of the toilet and into the bedroom. While I sat on a Saturday night and watched CSI and Law & Order. Who has less of a life?

He wants to be me (kate), Sunday, 27 June 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

when it's your 24th birthday and all you did was go out to dinner with your parents...

AaronHz (AaronHz), Sunday, 27 June 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

When you've been camped out in the same movie theater (and in the same seat) for three days straight seeing Tokyo get stomped repeatedly.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 27 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

watched "stayin' alive".

woah, you mean the John Travolta starring "Inferno" and making fun of (you guessed it) Frank Stallone movie? It's pretty crap but the final scene and Sylvester Stallone's gregarious cameo are outstanding.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 27 June 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

u like hoobastank

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 June 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i respect them

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 27 June 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

that's even WORSE, dude.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 June 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i like them in the way i like the cashier who gets me my change with a minimum of fuss and sometimes uses the penny jar and hands me a dollar rather than giving me 98 cents.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 27 June 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Bless that cashier.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It is 11pm; I am at work. When I get home I plan on playing Wolfenstein Enemy Territory all night just like I did the last 3-5 nights.

...

Dan I., Monday, 28 June 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I took Thursday and Friday off and watched 15 hours of Doctor Who. AND I ENJOYED IT.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we have a winner.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Did I say Doctor Who? I meant, er, something sophisticated like Friends.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Saturday night I went to a hip trendy dance club, got totally drunk, and then I got laid. You LOSERS!!!!

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

(actually I keep staying up watching infomercials while I wait for the Euro 2004 matches to start at 2:30 AM, only to fall asleep at 2:40 AM)

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you negate geekness by doing sophisticated stuff? I stopped watching Trial of a Time Lord halfway through to do a big sex muscley tough-guy gym workout, does that get me off the hook?

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

haha a sophisticated big sex muscley tough-guy gym workout Almy?

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

In a St Kilda gym, no less. If that doesn't ooze sophistamacation, nothing does.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

or girly-man gym workouts?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 28 June 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

..you ran late for work this morning because you spent 40 minutes in simcity "testing" the terrain editing tool to see if you could make some funky cut-away trench style rail lines with tunnels and overpass roads, and you cheered when you worked out how to do it.

And then read the SimCity strategy book on the tram on the way to work, making notes in a little notebook about how best to lay out the freeway system.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

...it's two in the morning, you're on vacation and unemployed, and you're reading abstracts for philosophy papers online. Do I when?

mouse, Monday, 28 June 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce, you sound cooler to me with every post.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 28 June 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

... you can't think of a good reason for refusing to be at work all weekend.

beanz (beanz), Monday, 28 June 2004 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

...you literally slept for the last 18 hours getting up once to post on ilx.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Monday, 28 June 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahahaha, thanks rox! =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

you spent all day saturday playing Fallout 2. Then going in to work at 10pm, then leaving at 11pm. stop by the bar to drink with friend, come home, play fallout 2 till 5am.

wake up at 1:30. grind away at fallout 2 until 5. eat food, do work, go into work for overtime, head to bar to work rock show, get home at 1:30, play fallout 2, post to ilx, go to bed.

actually, i think i fits bits & pieces of a life amongst the computer gaming. Not that i've devoted any time to planning my eventual move out of town, but still...

Kingfish of Burma (Kingfish), Monday, 28 June 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I think thats me too :(

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, you guys make me feel like I actually have a life. Thanks for cheering me up.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 28 June 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(That sounded meaner than it was supposed to, I'm sorry.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 28 June 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I really wanted to get a life. Instead, I ended up getting a job. :-(

He wants to be me (kate), Monday, 28 June 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

what's a life and where can I download one?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i just watched most of heaven's gate. (i fell asleep at one point.)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I sanded a piece of MDF into a spire. Now thats boring!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)
