Rolling Men's Group Thread

Hi, I'm colin. I want you to know that this is a thread especially for new age men. We can share our feelings, cry, laugh, whatever, in an accepting environment. We can post links, chat, just touch each other in non-threatening ways; or, we can suggest rituals, magick, or workshop ideas. This is our space.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Great! I suggest you spell magic correctly.

Skottie, Sunday, 27 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there is supposed to be a difference between 'magick' and 'magic', but I'm not sure what it is.

Kerry (dymaxia), Sunday, 27 June 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Magic = conjuring and trickery, as distinct from spells and castings.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 27 June 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"Magick is the alleged art and science of causing change in accordance with the will by non-physical means. Magick is associated with all kinds of paranormal and occult phenomena, including but not limited to: ESP, astral projection, psychic healing, the cabala, and chakras. Magick uses various symbols, such as the pentagram, as well as a variety of symbolic ritual behaviors aimed at achieving powers which allow one to contravene the laws of physics, chemistry, etc. Magick should not be confused with magic, which is the art of conjuring and legerdemain"

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 June 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh...magic and magick are the same word with the same definition. One is spelled incorrectly. Magick should not be confused with magic, which is the art... and people who spell 'magic' 'magick' should not be confused with homeless people or the mentally ill just because they prance around thinking they can "contravene the laws of physics, chemistry" whilst wearing harry potter outfits and going to renaissance pleasure fairs.

Skottie, Sunday, 27 June 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Common usage dictates "official" meanings, Skottie. If people who do "magick" all choose to spell it like that, it is not incorrect. Watch for dictionaries and the like to recognise the difference.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 27 June 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Your point is well taken, edward o, but spelling magic with a ck is silly, nonetheless.

Skottie, Sunday, 27 June 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

One wonders which group wants MORE to be disassociated from the other - parlour magicians or paranormalists, actually.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 27 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I am feeling some tension, and also some cries for help.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, dudes, like, let's just share. Appreciate the moment.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 June 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

However, can I skip the group hug?

*personal bubble*

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 27 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, jel. That's ok with all of us. May I ask though? Is there some incident from your life that made you not trust the gentle non-sexual touch of a group of caring men? Something making you so angry right now!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't touch me there!. . . . .touch me.......here.

Skottie, Sunday, 27 June 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll skip everything bar the group hug!

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 27 June 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems to me that if these idiots want to define 'magick' in some specific way they are entitled to do so. This does not give them the right to redefine the word 'magic', which everyone else is using to mean stage conjuring and 'real' magic, to help them feel superior.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 27 June 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm feeling warmth. But also some confusion and...fungus.

I'm taking a self voyage now, but I'll be back later, brothers.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Sunday, 27 June 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see anything wrong with Wiccans/pagans/etc. wanting to differentiate their beliefs from the David Copperfields of the world. Their beliefs are no more insane than mainstream religion.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 27 June 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin OTM. The difference between the wiccans and druids and David Copperfield is that David Copperfield actually has skills. And he's had Claudia Schiffer.

Skottie, Sunday, 27 June 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus CJ, you should still be hung-over, not erudite

Weebleman (StillSimon), Sunday, 27 June 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I voluteer for ritual drum-banging duties.

lovebug starski, Sunday, 27 June 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

But I'm keeping my clothes on.

lovebug starski, Sunday, 27 June 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

There ain't going to be any banging. I was promised.

Skottie, Sunday, 27 June 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
I'm feeling some real empathy right now on the shaving thread.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm feeling anticipation, itchiness, and hunger, in that exact order.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The amount of women on ILX these days is a really threatening prospect for me. Some of them are quite shockingly forthright. Could any moderators do something about this?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps a quota of some kind? Gender-specific logins?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the inner female which we fear.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Errrr....quite right.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean it's just so needlessly overcomplicated, I find.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

forthright? dude, you're so British.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Everybody can come to my house to make waffles, but only if they're confident enough to wear pink shirts emblazoned with this thread title.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

More British than you.

xpost

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

We should all form a BAND. Every man jack of us.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Monophonic Pee

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear you, Michael.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Pick me! Pick me! I can play the Stereo!

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I'm not really that good.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Being a man, I qualify to be here. Right this moment I don't have any need to share my feelings, cry, laugh, whatever, in an accepting environment. If I did, I could do that any number of places.

However, if I thought anyone were inclined to be serious, I would pose the question: what do you think is valuable about manhood, as distinct from adulthood in general?

IOW, leaving aside the incidental quirks and accidents of being male, and the stupidities that the media tries to foist on men generally, what is both fundamental and good about men? Anything? Or are men just someone who can grow a beard?

Aimless, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

Not that I think anyone really will be inclined to be serious, mind you.
