Godzilla (the original Japanese vers.)

I saw the unedited/undubbed print of Godzilla last week, and I was really surprised. I've never seen anything but the cheesy "v. Mothra" films.
Anyone else seen this?

I could have done with fewer monster/action scenes in the middle part - they drag it down a bit. But the scenes in the scientist's basement are great in a noir/Kiss Me Deadly way.

is the rerelease out now then?

also: the mothra ones are good as are mothra solo films... the rebith of mothra movies rule

I wanna get Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster so badly!

You know it's a parable based on the atomic bombings, right?

I hate life.

I don't know why every single critic had to make a big deal about that, like it was a monster movie with a hidden message. They reference Nagasaki specifically! One of the characters SAYS IT.

Did you find it kinda boring? Cuz I did, esp. since the Raymond Burrness is so notably missing.

Parts of the actiony stuff, yeah. Sub-Star Trek production values and repetetiveness. I liked all the character interaction and the children singing on the radio, etc.

It's nice in the filmgeek sense, I think, but I doubt it ever would have acquired its stature if it had remained as 'original' and ported to US audiences. But it does have a certain creepiness absent from the Burrzilla/later flicks.

I JUST FOUND THAT OUT THREE HOURS AGO DON'T RIDICULE ME

I had no idea until I read some reviews before seeing it. (Actually, I didn't even know that it existed until it showed up in Dallas)

I already commented about it on this thread
