(i assume the question is more in reference to his broadcasting skills, than his career as a player?)

I didn't want him to lose every match like I did Becker and, later on, following his '86 sabbatical I warmed to him and started to relish his extended runs at the Slams (though he was never again to reach a final). Finally I appreciated the genius. I can watch the '80 Wimbledon final now with the same goose-pimply wonder a Liverpool fan probably can a DVD of that UEFA final vs Alaves - but live it was a million torments.
That the two people who put me through so much misery as a tennis fan should be the two I most look forward to hearing as broadcasters is kinda funny; Becker's appeal is chiefly his buffoonishness. "Hey, is that Lou Reed?"

...and also that, despite his love for her, he has never even once attempted to pronounce her name correctly.
Classic for being such an entertaining motormouth in the commentary box. Dud for when 'comedy rambling' turns into 'ill-informed bullshit' esp. when he starts slagging the women's game off, or starts accusing Karolina Sprem of cheating.
I was too young to watch him play.

He didn't accuse her of cheating, he actually said that of all the people involved she was most blameless. He is classic, was classic as a player and is tremendously watchable as a broadcaster.

Borg vs McEnroe does pretty well with their epic 1980 Wimbledon final (which I don't remember; it was my first year of university, and I'd stopped paying attention to things I should have been paying attention to), but for the first 80 minutes, it's like somebody told the director he'd be remaking Diary of a Country Priest. Bjorn Borg couldn't have possibly been this grim or uninteresting in real life. Even Shia LaBeouf as McEnroe is unnecessarily grim. The only actor who seems to be enjoying himself (and who therefore catches something about the era) is Robert Emms as Vitas Gerulaitis--he's practically Jeff Spicoli in the midst of all this hand-wringing. (I think I grew up thinking Gerulaitis was Spanish or something.)
