I've just found out that they're the company who got the contract to provide food at our new office building. I've heard the name before, which sparked a negative vibe that I couldn't place.

Then i went to their homepage and found out where i've heard the name before: They're the company who was providing the stank-ass cafe food for one of the schools shown in _Supersize Me_.

Anybody know anything else about these guys? I'm getting an odd vibe from their website, as if they have sort of nefarious ties with some right-wing org.

they cater our office cafeteria here. the fat content of most of the meals are off the hook. 45 grams of fat in one serving of some of the meals. And they all taste like ass.

They cater for loads of places. The mother of an ex-flatmate worked for them, at HMS Caledonia (a naval barracks in eastern Scotland).

They do give money to NPR -- or at least they used to (can't remember hearing their name in a while). The only other thing I know is that they bought out Marriott, and for a while it was Sodexho-Marriott; now it's just Sodexho. But I seem to recall some shady bizness as well.

The division that my flatmate's mother worked for was originally called Gardner Merchant, I think, but lost its identity to cover up some bad publicity or dodginess somewhere.

oh yeah, and i should probably mention that, due to contract signed with them, we can't have food delivered to the building. you either have to eat in the cafe or drive away for lunch.

lovely policy, that.

They have some notoriety in the US because of their stake in CCA, a company that owns and administers private prisons, a really nasty industry that has somehow fallen out of the news. (If I have the facts straight, inefficiency has led many states to cancel private prison contracts, but not before prisoner abuse and poor training of corrections officers caused a scandal a few years ago.)

In addition to all of their shady busy dealings mentioned upthread, I have to mention that they provided the food at the office building at my last job -- the food is overpriced and *terrible*. Nobody bought lunch there unless they were starving or desperate.
