Complete with a Mary Cherry commentary! I'm so excited I've been doing the series one finale dance routine for the past 90 minutes.

pretty excited.

*Faints*;*Faints hardcore*

(Hey Yana!)

when the first series first showed on Sky One it quickly became my favourite show. i thought the second season was lacking by comparison but hey, a Mary Cherry commentary is most certainly not to be sniffed at y'all.

Agreed, the second series was lacking enormo in comparison to the first, but it did feature such gems as the Mullet appreciation society, the Dangerous Liaisons episode, Nicole Julian as Madge in JPG conical bra dance homage and the ever swoonable Harrison looking hot in a variety of different outfits. Even the John Travolta outfit.

But Popular is, really, all about the first series. It's just the most wonderfully insane-o series of wtf-isms mixed with the best one-liners ever. "If I were J-Lo and had an ass that big, I'd never leave the house!" etc.

(G-Thang, yo!)

I have never seen Popular. *gasp*

But tell me when Peep Show is coming out on DVD, THEN I'll do a dance :)

(Some time this year allegedly.)

HEY HEY YOU, I'm in London this weekend, we should watch it then. (Is it out and stuff?)

I feel vaguely obliged to buy the Peep Show DVD (yay!) even though I think I 'enjoyed' like 0.3 seconds of it by any definition of 'enjoy' I understand. (It is great obv).

This is where I weep. US release date: September 21.

But to make up for that, I'm gonna die my hair blonde a-la Sam et all in the great blonde vs brunette hair experiment.

Marianna L Cecelia, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the Sweeps episode was brilliant. as was the use of Erik Estrada, the musical episode, the Scarlet letters episode, things like the Charlie's Angels pastiche...ah great days (or rather Thursday evenings). and i really had a crush on Sam's Mom - uh oh...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Leslie Bibb can tussle! (As evinced on Line of Fire.)

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm definitely excited; this'll go towards the top of the rental queue. The show took a few episodes to hit its stride, understandably, and then overcompensated -- but in the middle there, it was great. Just the kind of thing I was hoping WB would do more of.

Isn't the short-haired blonde bitch -- not Leslie Bibb, her friend -- Melissa Etheridge's new girlfriend now, or am I completely confusing her with someone else?

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I right in thinking that this Popular is in the same generic neighborhood as Freeks + Geaks?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Famous people from my hometown:
Short haired blonde bitch from Popular who is now Melissa Etheridge's wife.
Axl Rose.

Christ I'm doomed.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

It starts out kind of like F&G, but it gets much, much more surreal. Freaks and Geeks never lost its reality claim -- Popular abandoned it entirely (by, I think, halfway through the first season), which made it great for awhile, but then it got a little out of control, and lost its ability to surprise.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm, I may need to check this out.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto likewise.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone who remembers the episodes better than I do -- it's been a few years -- should factcheck me on when it starts to head towards surreal land, before everyone runs out and rents it.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Popular actually featured a reference to Freaks & Geeks in one episode, some of the students were talking about a demo or something to save the show from being cancelled! my head kinda exploded with the DYS post-post-post-mod overload.
