B&B are FUNNIER than you remember. Seriously.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree w/ Blount 'cept I'd put Jay & Bob over Wayne & Garth.

Nick OTM, but he forgot about the MEMO that says Jay & Bob weren't as funny as you remember and Wayne & Garth were never funny in the first place.

Do they really count though? They're part of an ensemble cast.

Ashton Kutcher and Stiffler

They are not worthy.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Bill & Ted is even funnier now that I'm old enough to realize the degrees to which their ridiculocity reaches. And also how corny all that guitar music sounds up in there.

Yeah, that's true. I was just riffing man. Beboppin' and scattin'.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Really, Beavis and Butthead are so far ahead of everything else on this thread that it doesn't even matter.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Beavis and Butthead is one of the funniest things ever, something much of ILE seemed to have had forgotten when we last talked about it

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there was a just B&B thread too.

'wayne's world was a great movie, and you are all homosexuals'

Actually, yeah I liked Wayne's World too. Beavis and Butthead are a funnier blonde/brunette moron duo, though.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I rated W&G second, after B&B!

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Was Wayne's World actually funny? I mean, I can remember very little about it now, but what I can wasn't amusing in the slightest. In fact, I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that Mike Myers has never been involved anything worthwhile at all.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess wayne and garth aren't the most iconic stoner comedy duo. But I do think they came from the best movie of the bunch.

Symplistic (shmuel), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Wayne's World is hilarious! It's so random and absurd. The first one more so, but the second one has its moments. Like when Wayne is trying to think up an idea, and he sees a poster to Woodstock, so he says "Waynestock!" and then sees a bunch of CDs, and says that Aerosmith and Pearl Jam will be there! And then looks around and sees... an old man fashioning a canoe out of wood?

It's probably the best SNL inspired movie, which isn't saying much, but it is so by a long long run. Jay and Silent Bob try too hard, and at my high school, at the graduation the year before mine, the very last thing heard on stage was a girl from the class screaming "San Dimas high school football rules!"

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

it took me a coupla years before i realized that Beethoven's "playing" segment was really Joe Satriani.

also, B&T _was_ the only flick to feature the classic acting skills of Al Leong, so it gets points for that.

Then again, WW2 had James Hong. Hmm.

Yeah I agree. I also think that's related what nickalicious is saying with this:

Beavis & Butthead are comedy gold. And since I've chuckled at least once or twice at W&G and J&SB, for me it goes

B&B>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>W&G=J&SB>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>B&T.

Bill and Ted were never funny. Even when I was 12.

Will (will), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Beavis and Butthead is totally aging beautifully -- watch it now and in addition to getting great hindsight on early-90s pop culture you also get to see the show as more and more of a really astute encapsulation of the whole early-90s US, in pretty deep ways.

(It's kind of similar to the effect I get now when I flip past a really old early-90s episode of COPS and can't help lingering on it: it gives a picture of what the culture of a moment was actually like at the bottom level, which is interesting because usually our memories of a given moment are based on what we wanted it to be like -- fashion, imagination, successful pop culture images where everyone wears good clothes. Except with Beavis and Butthead it's way deeper and funnier than just watching someone get arrested in horrible clothes you'd forgotten existed.)

Ethan with a chainsaw to thread in 10..9..

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

The other interesting thing about the choice of folks in the thread title is that three of the pairs consist of lovable losers, right -- they're lame in lots of ways, but in the end they always do something that makes them come out on top. Beavis and Butthead are pretty different, in that a lot of the humor came from looking closer and closer at them and continually finding nothing but total cretinous rock-bottom dumbness. When they were watching videos they were allowed to have little flashes of wit -- that was their domain, after all -- but the actual stories are 100% impenetrable idiocy.

Which I say maybe because the one time I've re-seen an episode in the past five years or so, it's the one where a documentary filmmaker tries to do a short about B&B as representatives of Today's Lost Youth, and he can't even do that -- they just stand there chuckling like morons.

beavis & butt-head, possibly the best TV show of all time. I saw one a few weeks ago on MTV2, in which they try to strike oil in the backyard & dig up a sewage pipe instead, fill up a barrel and try to sell it to that old dude down the street. also has Pantera video in which they talk about how the guy's dad must've kicked his ass when he was a kid. "dammit, Pantera, this beer's warm! what the hell is wrong with you, Pantera! awww, are you crying Pantera?"

still hoping to catch an episode with Stuart in it.
