Seriously. Who's game?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Is this going to be in September? If so, consider all of your clocks cleaned.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:05 (nineteen years ago) link

im semi game, but only if you can find somewhere semi cheap (ie not elbow room)

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Sounds ace! I'll 7-ball* the lot of yers (actually I'm rub but I'm still up for it).

*Will the tournament include a suitable forfeit for being 7-balled?

robster (robster), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Is it going to be singles or doubles?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:09 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm gamer than a gang of grouse. let's find a nice quiet pub with a table.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:09 (nineteen years ago) link

xxpost

roxy, dude, remember to pack YOUR clock in your luggages!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:10 (nineteen years ago) link

the big red on holloway road has 4 pool tables, and is near my house!

i think there should be both singles and doubles tournaments

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:11 (nineteen years ago) link

Talking some transatlantic trash, are we, Ken?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:11 (nineteen years ago) link

Must be 8-ball as that's all we play. I'm in.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:12 (nineteen years ago) link

as per usual then!

xpost

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:12 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, elbow room £9/hour WTF? screw that.
i'm game though. bring it on.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:13 (nineteen years ago) link

8 ball sounds great - although i'd whoop someone's ass if we play 9 ball too.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:13 (nineteen years ago) link

are we preferring proper blue american pool table with the funny coloured balls or british green table with the yellow and red balls?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:14 (nineteen years ago) link

taking out some trash i reckon ;)

steve, whilst "let's find a nice quiet pub with a table" is an admirable idea, once it's got c. 16 of us in it, it's not going to be very quiet now is it?

how expensive is the elbow rooms? don't you pay by the hour?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:14 (nineteen years ago) link

...blue? Are ours supposed to be blue?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:15 (nineteen years ago) link

oi Carslime, don't patronise me just cos i'm kicking your arse in the Euro 2004 fantasy league

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:15 (nineteen years ago) link

£9/hr isn't too bad, when you think that most london tables are £1.50 a game, so if yr sh!t hot and your games last less than 10 minutes you're no worse off...

christ i was JSL...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:16 (nineteen years ago) link

i never used to see red baize - it's a late 90s thing afaik. maybe we should all just join a RILEYS.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:16 (nineteen years ago) link

haha i dunno! all the ones i've seen were blue!!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:16 (nineteen years ago) link

note: i am the worst breaker in da whole vorld

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Been a while since I played on blue baize. It will be like a breath of fresh air.

robster (robster), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:18 (nineteen years ago) link

where is there a rileys?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:19 (nineteen years ago) link

at the bell in Walthamstow ;o)

chris (chris), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Shepherds Bush has a big one.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm bout it bout it. And we can get a foosball tournament going while we're waiting for our turn at the table.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:25 (nineteen years ago) link

You know how you can do long-distance chess matches, where the far-away person tells you what they just did and you move their piece? I don't suppose that would work with pool, would it?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:26 (nineteen years ago) link

so list so far...

Ken C
Roxymuzak (for Sept tournament)
ambrose
Robster
Stevem
Dave B
Rob Bolton
CarsmileSteve
Chris(?)
Ricardo(?)
oops(?)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:28 (nineteen years ago) link

"so if yr sh!t hot and your games last less than 10 minutes you're no worse off..."
this is the problem here. if your game lasts 30 mins, it costs 4.50.
hence i prefer by game rather than by hour.
is there some sort of level check. seems like the general ability level is high, so i might have to duck out

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:31 (nineteen years ago) link

MAN TOURNAMENT!

I'm not, but I'll have a beer and cheer you all on, like.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Er, I wasn't volunteering, on account of being k-bad nowadays.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:36 (nineteen years ago) link

(ambrose i think the general level is "over-confident", my game's gone to [ahem] pot over the last two years)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:40 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm In.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:42 (nineteen years ago) link

(oh flip, where did he come from?)

(only kidding Dr C :))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:43 (nineteen years ago) link

I wish I could actually play pool ;-(

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Uh?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:45 (nineteen years ago) link

sarah are you calling roxy a man??

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:45 (nineteen years ago) link

I know, I thought it was fairly obvious I'm female now with the new email addy.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 1 July 2004 13:46 (nineteen years ago) link

you'd think wouldn't you??

next they'd have to ask if you're a lawyer.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 14:19 (nineteen years ago) link

or if i'm a pokemon.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 14:19 (nineteen years ago) link

The Castle in Farringdon makes you pay for 30/60 mins or something - costs a fiver i think

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 15:25 (nineteen years ago) link

probably 10 for an hour

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 July 2004 15:26 (nineteen years ago) link

oh i am so fucking game for this.

(and so fucking shit obv)

nonono not the elbow room tho, it's extortion and arthur baker's always hanging about trying to steal my beer.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 1 July 2004 16:41 (nineteen years ago) link

so does anybody know of a decent pool place?

riley's in shepherds bush sounds good although will we all have to be members?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 July 2004 17:16 (nineteen years ago) link

Is Pete not in charge of a place with two pool tables and a bar? I don't suppose it would be available for this, though.

I'm in. Is anyone taking bets yet? I'd put money on Dr C, but I doubt many would take the bet.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 1 July 2004 19:26 (nineteen years ago) link

yes you have to be a member to play in Rileys...and it's a bit far west for most of you hustlers. are there ANY pool clubs where you can actually book a table. y'know, like, by PHONING AHEAD?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 July 2004 08:37 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll put meself in, then.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 2 July 2004 08:42 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm going to spend the next two weeks researching, and then report back.

watch this space.

oh you can't.

haha, watch it in two weeks.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 July 2004 08:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Roxy is going to be here in Sept? Rah.

In pool news, I will spectate as I am rubbish. I will have pompoms and a sweater with 'Robster' embroidered on it.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:10 (nineteen years ago) link

(Well for the purposes of saying MAN TOURNAMENT, yes, sorry Roxx0rs)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Ed (dali), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:06 (nineteen years ago) link

We are an action packed pleasure dome of entertainment.

Blimey.

In County Xanadu Hall did Kubla Ken
A stately action packed pleasure dome decree
Where Thames the dirty river ran
Down to a sunless sea.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:26 (nineteen years ago) link

i mentioned Namco Station before wrt to bowling but now favour Rowans (which also has pool of course, hint hint)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:42 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm up for rowans - does it have american pool tables??? (it's supposed to but i've never seen it!)

i'm up for british pool too though.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:47 (nineteen years ago) link

or is that called billiards?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:47 (nineteen years ago) link

/i know a good pool hall at the ferry terminal in St Petersburg, it has russian billiard too. The ILX all world final should be there.

Ed (dali), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:49 (nineteen years ago) link

yes!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 July 2004 10:49 (nineteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
has anyone been to the PROGRESS BAR on that road that leads to the tufnell park from holloway road? is this place any good?

It claims to have pool - and their logo is like the windows PROGRESS BAR! so it's fitting for our internet messageboard geekiness maybe.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 16 July 2004 15:35 (nineteen years ago) link

sounds good. there's a Progress bar on CIty Road between Old St and Angel as well but no pool i don't think.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 16 July 2004 16:42 (nineteen years ago) link

eight months pass...
Whatever happened to this?!??!?!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:35 (nineteen years ago) link

i've played stevem a couple times... he's the worst pool player under the sun

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:38 (nineteen years ago) link

but the guys went easy, so he always won

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:39 (nineteen years ago) link

i played the other week for the first time in ages and did alright, i'm certainly in favour of MORE POOL

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

How embarassing for you to have lost to me Ken, and to be reminded of this now, in front of everybody.

I am the Middlesbrough of pool.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:51 (nineteen years ago) link

haha steve i remember it was 1-1 the last time we played! (you have an uncanny way with statistics!!!!!!!!)

hahaa

so who's up for this apart from steve and steve!!?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:20 (nineteen years ago) link

i've the liverpool of pool

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:21 (nineteen years ago) link

1-1 means you lost one game, to me. i thought we played a decider though...

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 14 April 2005 16:43 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm in

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 17:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I am probably in too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 April 2005 18:21 (nineteen years ago) link

I like the sound of this. I might be a mystery guest.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:47 (nineteen years ago) link

The Elbow Room on Curtain Road in Shoreditch looked really quiet when I passed by after the Cut Copy gig a few weeks back, that was a Tuesday night.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:51 (nineteen years ago) link

I am in for this. I've not played for ages. I did nothing much than play pool in my first year at University.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 14 April 2005 21:26 (nineteen years ago) link

has anyone been to the PROGRESS BAR on that road that leads to the tufnell park from holloway road? is this place any good?

I have. It's alright, but you have to hire out the table for an hour (maybe £6? can't remember).

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Thursday, 14 April 2005 21:42 (nineteen years ago) link

£6 is cheaper than Elbow room (that's like £9??!)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 15 April 2005 08:40 (nineteen years ago) link

yup £9.. and that was last year - i bet it's gone up now
yeah, elbow room £9/hour WTF? screw that.
i'm game though. bring it on.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 12 May 2005 15:25 (eighteen years ago) link

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 12 May 2005 15:26 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't play this weekend - I am very booked.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 12 May 2005 16:55 (eighteen years ago) link

This weekend I'm away, but I'm always up for a game of pool, especially one bearing the name 'ILX POOL TOURNAMENT'

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 12 May 2005 19:07 (eighteen years ago) link

There's only two tables in the Progress by the way. Wouldn't you be better off at Rowans?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Thursday, 12 May 2005 21:45 (eighteen years ago) link

one year passes...
lol. this thread keeps being revived and people keep saying they're up for it but it never happeend

this was mentioned again on another thread.. i remember Dr C being up for it, and someone else?

progress bar is no more! it's now called "the tufnell". punless. i actually have membership to a rileys now. and also archway snooker club.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 November 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I think it should be in a pub in the spirit of the ILX bar billiards tournament. Advantages : get more people along, can simultaneously FAP etc etc

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 16 November 2006 15:21 (seventeen years ago) link

pub would rule if there's one with a decent and not constantly populated table around.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 November 2006 01:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I tell you what, I do love my pool. I'll out-safety anyone, anyday...and when it comes to fouls, I'm a professional! :-)

I'd be up for a pool-related FAP during the holidays!

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Friday, 17 November 2006 01:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Safety play? In pool?!?

ledge (ledge), Friday, 17 November 2006 09:58 (seventeen years ago) link

RULES? IN A KNIFE FIGHT?!?

ledge (ledge), Friday, 17 November 2006 09:59 (seventeen years ago) link

WE WANT POOL FAP. I would go to this. I would also lose badly.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 17 November 2006 11:06 (seventeen years ago) link

when's everyone free. around the holidays.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 November 2006 11:12 (seventeen years ago) link

The Savoy Tup just off the Strand has an upstairs room with pool and darts. There's never anyone in there midweek. Sometime in early/mid Dec is good for me, but not from 18th onwards.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 17 November 2006 11:15 (seventeen years ago) link

how about the wednesday 13th dec or thenabouts? i'm free all that week apart from monday.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 17 November 2006 11:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I have FINISHED ALL MY WORK FOR 2006 so any kind of midweek drinking is on the cards for me. I am rubbish at pool though so may just come along for the FAP.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 November 2006 11:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Wed 13 good for me, and the Strand is an ideal location.

ledge (ledge), Friday, 17 November 2006 12:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I am grebt at pool, but the Strand London is not an ideal location. Bah :-/
