It's tradition.

The Premiership season starts tomorrow boys and girls. Are you all excited?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

U&K: the Spurs v Liverpool game kicks off at 12:45 tomorrow. Does this mean that someone, somewhere, is televising it? Cos SKY don't appear to be...

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 13 August 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you sure about that? Arse, there goes my plan for tomorrow.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah - it appears to be on 'Premiership Plus'. That's the PPV one, right?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Are planning on watching it in Blackheath, MDC? Me and the PF were going to watch it somewhere in SE London.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely - I haven't set foot in the Crown since the 2nd Division playoffs and was considering reaquainting myself. Let me know if you have any better ideas.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

it os on prem plus yes, which I think I'll purchase tonight, and then make sure I make the most of it.

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought you got it in at the end of last season when it was dirt cheap?

i am currently living in a sky sports free house for the first time in three years, hopefully we can get it sorted in the next week or so...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to spend the rest of my life inside a Sky Sports free house

ken c (ken c), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

unfortunately not, it used to be a quid a month on NTL, now it's 50 quid flat fee :o(

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 13 August 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

you can now order ANY Prem game and watch it live or 'almost live' can't you?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

the way i understand it (which due to three weeks of no sky is possibly not as clear as it could be) is:

they have 88 games live on sky sports (usual sunday afternoons etc)
they have 50 games on ppv
all the remaining games (mainly saturday 3pm kick offs) will be available as 50 min highlights packages AFTER MATCH OF THE DAY STARTS on the saturday night...
dunno what they're doing about week night matches though.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 13 August 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Every game is available as live close to the event. From the people who brought you the end of Directory Enquiries. Whether Mandelson holding the Trade brief makes a difference I don't know...

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 13 August 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I am looking forward to the transfer window closing, so they shut up about all this nonsense of Shaun Wright-Phillips leaving us.

I am hopeful. City v Fulham first game, and Fulham are missing Malbranque. Should be in with a good opportunity of a good start to the season.

___ (___), Friday, 13 August 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Liverpool must have improved their chances by getting rid of The Best Striker No-one Can Partner surely?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 13 August 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Murphy gone, Smicer out for six months, Kewell's fitness won't hold, Diao probably actually isn't a footballer, Hammann's clock is ticking, Biscan is definitely not a footballer, Diarra? Welsh? Partridge?

Liverpool have nothing to not get worried about in midfield save for Gerrard. Bottom half finish.

Gribowitz (Lynskey), Friday, 13 August 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Jerry: I'd be happy to forego our loosely-arranged game of tennis if it means making it easier for you (and me) to watch this exciting opener between two Big Clubs. I'm up for SE3, SE7, SE-whatever viewage. Also it means I can sleep in. Whaddya say?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 13 August 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Whaddya say we meet up with MDC and PF in the Crown at Blackheath around 12.30ish?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

That'll be 49 Tranquil Vale, right? Just a 202 away. See ya there.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 13 August 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The block on Olympics coverage overseas via Five Live means I can't get any Premiership games from them either and so I hate you all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"wacky" Gribowitz makes "off the wall" post shocker

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 August 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't even get BBC London on the web anymore because of the sodding Olympics.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 13 August 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, the BBC World Service usually, if not always, features second half commentary on Saturday afternoons.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 14 August 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

from alex in nyc's 'astor place' thread:

roman ahbramovitch?

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does N. want to read BBC London?

He does not live in London!

It is exciting, about the Crown. I like the way that Steady Mike knows its address.

the ballfox, Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

wtf. I meant:

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get it.

the spurfox, Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that N. in disguise? No wonder I was missing him.

I am going to try to get to this so-called Tranquil Vale. I don't think I will make it for 12.30. If I haven't made it by 2.30, I think we can assume I've got lost.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The excitement is truly mounting. It's exponential, I shouldn't wonder.

Really, were I not excited now, when would I be?

the spurfox, Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Miller, it is right next to the Black Heath. That's a clue, to its whereabouts.

You could send a post card home, to Maidenhead!

the spurfox, Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I got my A-Z guide book...

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not near Oxford Street.

the bellefox, Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what I'm worried about.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I sent you an e-mail, incidentally, to wideblueyonder.

Maybe that means it will get lost, out there. But you could try, to read it.

the bellefox, Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I've read it, cheers.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going out to the pub ANY MINUTE NOW!

Also I'm setting the video for MoTD tonight so I can capture Gary's cheeky "we're back" remark for posterity.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 14 August 2004 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

oooh I like mourinho, a lot.

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanted to listen to BBC London Radio. Just for fun.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 14 August 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a draw, that's fair enough.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 14 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan, fuck off.

Gribowitz (Lynskey), Saturday, 14 August 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The title of this thread should be changed to 'Liverpool Won't Even Qualify for Europe 2004-2005'.

Yesterday I went to somebody's house and it was The Pinefox's.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Sunday, 15 August 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. I have never been to the Pineset, so I am well jealous.

I may be a bit stupid, but didn't Liverpool just kind of give Michael Owen away? Even quoting the price in dollars can't make the sum look great.

So Alba = N. I wonder why he has called himself after a cheap brand of hifi.

Mooro (Mooro), Sunday, 15 August 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

what did you make of the pineset in london?

£8m does seem kind of little even with an extra player.. at least owen costed liverpool nothing to start with though? (cos he was from the youth squad etc?)

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 15 August 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Alba is also a girl's name. I think it means Dawn.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Sunday, 15 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I should note that I was really pleased that Jay Jay had such a great game yesterday - his first was the best free kick of the day, the second featured him giving the pass of the day, and then he scored what I thought was the best goal of the day. After about a million shots last season without scoring, it was good to see him come good, as we all knew he must.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 15 August 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Why must he?

It is true, he is good. He came, that way, too.

Mooro, I think I have probably invited you to my den, in the past.

It was good to see Miller, and not only him, there, the other day.

I think Liverpool will not win the Premiership 2004-5.

They might manage 3rd place?
