The Animated Passion???

The Animated Passion (Anchor Bay) — A few years back they made an animated and sanitized version of Titanic in which everyone survived. Now they’ve done it with The Passion of the Christ. “For the whole family,” the DVD box art says; “appropriate even for young children.” This version depicts Christ tied by ropes to the cross and stresses the Resurrection, not the brutality of the Crucifixion. There are even sing-along activities on the optional three-disc DVD set.

"an animated and sanitized version of Titanic in which everyone survived"

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 16 August 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hold on, let me get my head around this.

No Mary Magdalen as whore trope? What's the point then?

"animated and sanitized"

The stories of the scripture come alive
in two powerful movies depicting Jesus'
Passion and resurrection in language
that is appropriate for, and
understandable by, children. The
scripturally accurate tales will delight
adults and children alike, with
high-quality animation from
producer/director Richard Rich. Includes
three 30-minute DVDs: "Worth Is The
Lamb," detailing the betrayal and
crucifixion of Christ, "He Is Risen,"
detailing Christ's resurrection, and "The
Kingdom of Heaven," which brings to
life some of Jesus' parables about the
Second Coming.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

So they're full of pep and very clean and they don't die, eh? Sounds tragic.

So that's what Richie Rich is doing these days.

"everyone survived"

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 16 August 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the point in getting them wet if they were already sanitized?

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 16 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Compare that animated Anastasia from a few years ago -- if I remember correctly it didn't even mention that there had been a revolution in Russia.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 16 August 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Amazon is telling me that there was also an "erotic" Titanic made in 2000. I'm guessing everyone gets wet in that one.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

whoops, it actually came in in 1999, Titanic 2OOO is actually the full title.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw "Anastasia" on a plane. It did have the revolution, but it was a result of Rasputin's pact with the devil. A cogent historiographical analyisis.

"in which"

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 16 August 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the one.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

if you guys like that, you'll LOVE their versions of "Schindler's List," "Shoah", "the Towering Inferno", and "Caligula."

Also, in their version of "Star Wars", Greedo shoots first!

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 16 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

And in their version of ET, the cops carry walkie talkies instead of guns.

Ha ha, Hollywood Faux-teurs Beat Mormons to Kid-Gloved Punch!

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

there are lots of animated jesus movies, although they usually focus more on the "life and works" rather than the "passion and death" aspects.

i suspect that re. sanitized titanic, "everyone" just means "all the major characters" (i.e., jack). i hope.

amateur!!!st, Monday, 16 August 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

No, Amateurist, that's less funny.

I suspect one of the "sanitized" elements will be the blond-haired Jesus.

and on that note, CBN/TBN used to run eps of Tezuka's "Kimba the White Lion" on sundays mornings. we would watch those on the days when Mom didn't make us go to church

http://www.kimbawlion.com/RunningKimba1B.gif

of course, it would be another 10 years before i knew who Osama Tezuka was, and Disney's appropiation of him, but there ya go.

Somehow, it's a news item that SW is glad she doesn't have to eat bugs and shit.

Sigourney Weaver prefers not to eat cockroaches, large spiders
NEW YORK (AP) — Though she defined toughness in the Alien films, Sigourney Weaver wouldn’t make a good contestant on reality TV shows such as Fear Factor.
“Eating cockroaches and stuff wouldn’t be my favourite thing,” the 54-year-old actress tells People magazine.
“I was trying to kill a flying creature in my bedroom last night. It seemed to sprout more and more legs and arms. It was like a flying daddy longlegs. I didn’t know what it was, but I’m glad I didn’t have to eat it.”
Weaver co-stars in the thriller The Village, now in theatres.

Huck, Monday, 16 August 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

for nabisco, the writing allegedly on the back of the "titanic - the animated movie" video box:

"Set aboard the famous ship Titanic, where you will meet many lovable characters as they embark on a fun-filled adventure across the sea! Meet Angelica a young, beautiful girl who dreams of meeting her prince charming (sic). Sir William Greenfield a rich and handsome yet shy and modest Scottish nobleman. Corynthia Meanstreak an able swindler who is aided by her two clumsy nephews Kirk and Dirk. And of course we can't forget all the lovable Animals (sic) who populate the Titanic and will tell their own stories. Maxie the mouse, Geoffrey the cat, Danny the Dalmatian, Hector the Magpie and more!! Together these characters conjure up delightful entertainment for kids of all ages !

"As it happened in the real story, the Titanic will hit the iceberg but only to determine the beginning of a new life full of hope for everybody!! Filled with hilarious antics, fun music and enchanting characters this movie is sure to be a hit with the entire family !"
