I have decided to grow a mustache!

Okay, so between Thanksgiving and Christmas I'm taking part in some fund-raiser in which I will be growing a mustache and people will sponsor me. I'll start growing it in late November and shave it off around Christmas. So the question is, what sort of mustache should I grow?

"grow" being relative, I'm not sure how much of a 'stache I can get...

I would like my mustache to look cool, but I'm afraid it's going to end up looking like Jeff Kent's.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 16 August 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

this is an RJG thread.

A lady gets a lotta things
She gets a 20 carat ring
She gets the alimony too
She gets to look good in the nude
But there's one place where they've been whipped
Between the nose and upper lip

M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
One hundred hairs make a man

I tried a handlebar design
My Fu Manchu was real fine
My Ronald Colman made 'em blink
My Pancho Villa made 'em think
But when I trimmed 'em real small
My Jewish friends would never call

M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
One hundred hairs make a man

They call me sir, and that ain't bad
Sometimes they think that I'm my Dad
And women flirt and you can bet
They like that tickle that they get
The only time I feel bad
Is when the guess the lunch I've had

M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
M-M-M-M-M-M Moustache
One hundred hairs make a man

THAT'S what I'm talking about!

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to include the commentary on the photos. For the first one:

Here's the publicity photo of our very own Jeff Kent showing his gentle and sensitive side. Note how his mustache perfectly frames that sweet smile.

And for this one:

http://www.mustachesummer.com/images/kent2.jpg

And now, an action shot. I like to imagine when I look at this picture that Jeff's just hit a home run. Again, note the way his mustache hovers playfully above that mouth. Yeah, baby.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

Just started growing one for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I'm quite surprised at the stir it has generated. What is it about the mustache which elicits such strong reactions, both positive and negative, in comparison with beards, goatees or sideburns, which nobody seems to care about?

j-rock, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 05:32 (eighteen years ago)

Oh I care about sideburns all right.
