does anyone find ILX takes out a significant chunk out of their day?

or message boards in general? this might just be because my work is so boring at the moment or that im easily distracted, but perhaps i need a job as a moderator of a site to combine my twin interests of having a job to earn money and peruse ultimately unproductive internet sites.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, thank the lord. My work day would be intolerably boring if ILX didn't eat up more than half of it.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Funny how when ones job goes, so does ones percentage of time on here....

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You've been awfully quiet lately, Mark. What up?

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF ILX

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I just found ILX / ILM recently, and my God, I feel a new addiction coming on.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

And it's sneaky cos you feel a bit guilty if you lurk for too long, like you're leaching other people's thoughts. I definitely feel I owe other posters my posts even if mine aren't necessarily interesting. So I spend too long writing as well as reading. And tonight I'm working late cos I've so much work on and goddammit if I'm not posting here instead of being productive.

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX has nearly ruined both my job and all my human relationships. Even worse now with 1P3verything and those glorious picture threads.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, kate, it's like I say. Made redundant from job so most of my time is now looking for a new job and doing stuff around the house.

I get on here in short bursts and not as 'in deep' as before. It's funny, but not having broadband at home, and the difference being at work I was filling in time between actual work requirements on here, add up to being less into being online as much.

And no doubt when I do get a new job, there won't be internet access, or restricted or whatever. Biggest drop in the 'users' chart, number 12 to 202?

Anyhow, did you get your track onto the ILX comp?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 19 August 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX fills in a significant chunk of mine.

Dirty Muriel (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 19 August 2004 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

NOT AT ALL, MR LINE MANAGER SIR.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Thursday, 19 August 2004 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I am falling desperately behind in my job due to ILX. I don't have the willpower to stop. Tantrum - run away while you still have the chance!!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 19 August 2004 07:12 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah.. can ilx be down for two weeks every month??

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 19 August 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

or a scheduled 2 hours of downtime during work hours every weekday. (ilx0rs will need to register a region and ilxor.com will deny access to people in that region during say between 2-4pm)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 19 August 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken C in posting actually worthwhile suggestion shocka!!!!!!!!!

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 19 August 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i think we should be allowed to be poxy fules and turn back to our work a few hours a day like ken c says.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

it does for me as well, thank god. first i was bored and got a secondment so i'm doing another job 2.5 days a week (and didn't end up getting a temp into the first job, because i don't need it), and STILL have time to play.

was very bored while it was down...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah. Sad but true, that we need to have out toys taken away from us like babies, but hell, if it works, I'd be all for it.

(not in real life, though, it'd be crazy)

I'm in a particularly anti-work mood today (I'm not sure why - I seem to be a bit exhausted and it's really making me wish I wasn't here), so I imagine I'll be on here quite a lot.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

doglatin dude i've been posting worthwhile suggestions for years.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

on other boards yes?

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm on unofficial holiday at the moment as my boss is in Sri Lanka for a fortnight and right now there isn't ENOUGH happening on ILX to fill my time. More posts! More threads! More inane banter!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

ilx is eating up time i should be spending more constructively (ie. practicing shorthand) but i guess if ilx didn't exist i would find other ways of wasting my time.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

ie. it is not ilx's fault that i waste my time here, it is just that i'm a time-wasting sort of person who happened to find this particularly addictive way of wasting time.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM weasel.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

we could have an ILX weekend mid-week. wednesday off for good behaviour kind o thing.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 19 August 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it's kinda fascinating how a lot of people i know don't do anything at work...most of the time... like me !
makes me wonder how the western economy works...
the pblm with ilx is that i do spend a lot of time on it be at the same time, quite often, i don't find too many threads that i wanna read... i'm almost too lazy to read them actually !
i think my concentration capacity is getting near to the one of an oyster (no idea how low that is, though)

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX takes up way too much of my time - and I post much less than a lot of people here. I can tell you that I would never hire any of you!

I almost kicked it after the 2 week hiatus. People should only post really boring topics, so I can lose interest.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i wouldn't hire myself actually !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Me working hard for a half hour each day is more productive than most chumps "working" for 8.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 19 August 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops totally, utterly OTM.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 19 August 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but I'd feel better if I were stimulated and paid enough that I didn't even *want* to dick around on the internet anymore.

Harold Media (kenan), Thursday, 19 August 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we talking about porn or ilx?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 19 August 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I just took a nap under my desk.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 19 August 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Mandee the Restful

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 August 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Whatever turns that pout upside down.

Harold Media (kenan), Thursday, 19 August 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The turning point comes when you stop using ILX when work gets boring and start doing work when ILX gets boring.

n.a. (Nick A.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ive wasted two hours already on the net and ilx. and have done no work in that time. i wish the net had never been invented.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, n.a. OTM.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

another slashdot article about a thing called Lockout which will lock you out of your computer for a specified time (even changing the root password whilst it does). unfotunately it also seems to stop you doing anything useful with the pooter during that time. and only runs (doesn't run?) on linux.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I be the first person to mention Cyndi Lauper on this thread?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX has taken a larger chunk out of my day today than any other time this year that I can remember. Trouble is, I haven't found too much to say, I've mainly been reading threads rather than posting to them and repeatedly refreshing to get myself through the working day. This evening I've been here quite a bit. Unusually for me, I have been looking at ILM as much as ILE.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

UPDATE: Addiction status confirmed.

ALSO: ILM is a gateway to ILE.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

That should read "gateway drug".

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I took the sinister --> ILM --> ILE route.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 26 August 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm lucky, I had my wisdom teeth extracted two days ago (incidentally this is how I found ILX, researching the procedure) so it has pleasantly filled my days, along with watching the Olympics. Hurrah. Nicely timed so I could watch the athletics. But I digress.
Am a bit apprehensive about going back to work next Monday. Can see myself sneaking on here all day long, in between searching real estate sites for a place to live.

What did I used to do at work before we had the net?

Krusty, Thursday, 26 August 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX is the drug, and I need to score.

Slim Pickens (Slim Pickens), Thursday, 26 August 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

describing ILX as a drug is particularly apt as, like a drug, you can become addicted to it and it can do you harm (for example if you stay up all night reading and posting to it and don't get enough sleep, or you spend time posting at work rather than what you *should* be doing) but it can also do you a lot of good by providing a means of going out with ppl and socialising and sharing their good fortune when they get married, win the Lottery (ok, this hasn't happened yet) ect ect and most of all, it can do you good when you ask for support and get it e.g. when you have a health problem or a work crush ;)

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 26 August 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX can take up most of my day if I let it. Sometimes I have to set myself mini tasks like 'i have to complete X before I can read ILX again' to make sure I do actually get some work done. It's slightly better now that my boss is in the same office at me. Although, it's tough when he is on another forum all day. So I just think, f@#k it & carry on regardless!
