john mccain is a republican

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 19 August 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah - but hes not really the best representative of what are traditionally republican values. mostly, i like mccain a lot, and want to see him engage with two intelligent people who come closer to representing party beliefs. clinton seemed reasonable to me as a democrat.

McCain does actually represent traditional Republican values. It's Dubya and his ilk that don't.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 19 August 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean, definitely bush isnt a reasonable choice.

Tom DeLay

Dubya's reasonable if you're looking for non-traditional but now-dominant Republican values.

I'd watch this debate if:

every five minutes someone from the oil, gun, or tobacco industries comes in and drops a fat wad of cash on the Republican's podium and patted him on the ass; and

every five minutes someone from labor unions, Hollywood, or trial lawyers comes in and drops a fat wad of cash on the Democrat's podium and then an intern comes in and blows him.

Otherwise, why bother?

What are Clinton and McCain supposed to represent? McCain seems to represent exactly what you're looking for. It's hard to pick a "reasonable choice for a republican" these days because pretty much all of them just mouth talking points. Even Dole, which is sad. McCain is one of the exceptions who occasionally stray from the reservation. Lugar and Hagel also fit into this category.

Crossfire is the last thing you should watch.

Crossfire is the political Springer.. lots of one-upmanship and zingers to play towards the crowds. Plus Carville's ugly ass is always on it so that doesnt help much either.
