The joys of predictive text

I typed 'innit' into my 'phone, and it suggested 'hongu'.

Also, when I type 'soon' it suggests 'smoo'.

'excelsior' comes out as 'excelsins,' which is mildly disturbing.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

'If' come up as 'he' first, which I find a bit odd,

And to get to 'pint' you have to go through 'shot' and 'riot'. Is O2 subtly trying to warn me of the dangers of drinking?

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's what I get when I do 'pint':

shot
riot
pint
shou
phot
simu
shov
piou
siou
sinu
photocade

Don't ask me how the fuck 'photocade' came from 'pint'.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine ends at 'sinu'. you must have a more advanced phone than me.

Everything after 'pint' would make quite a good name for a character in a fantasy novel.

'now' just gave me 'Mozilla'.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

beer is always "adds" in mine. which is like a synonym for more beer if you ask me. like "beer plus" sorta thing. also my friend shonz is "phony" and i am "hemp" (seeing as my friends call me "gems")

gem (trisk), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I told my friend by text that I had just bought the pink panther movie on DVD and he's wondering why i am buying pink panties.

I'm always nearly sending "Gig gig gig thanks"

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Islington = Islinguam

I like the idea that there's an Islington-like island in the Pacific with easy access via the A1 to the Philippines and Micronesia.

i was just talking about innit/hongu strangeness the other night...

xmas used to be wobs on early nokias. best one i've found is "jeophoguno" for kensington...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

FAP = Fancy a riot?

My friend Saji, who's Indian, was fairly disconcerted to find her phone suggests "paki" as an alternative to her name..

Rubber Ogden, Friday, 20 August 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont get hongu. i get immit.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like the way I get 'rub' and 'sub' before 'pub'. Are people REALLY bringing up rubs in casual conversations, more than pubs?

Also the first five letters of my name come up as 'rabid'.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

What I don't understand is that sometimes you can type in as few as 4 letters before it beeps and goes "aji?" or whatever. On the other hand, it's possible to get unwieldiness like "Conservatixjgjgjgjgjgjgjgjg" before it gives up and beeps at you.

three years pass...

my phone predicts "grauniad".

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 19 November 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

Mine does Gerry as herpes, and I feel it's nice to text my husband on a Friday and warn him I'll be late him because I'm in the pub with herpes.

ailsa, Monday, 19 November 2007 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

late home, not him.

ailsa, Monday, 19 November 2007 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

no doubt I have updated my phone at some point in the last 3 years but it still annoys me that 'beer' is 'adds'. Surely 'beer' would be used far more often than 'adds' in the world of sms
