I say Ali G in Season One, DEFINITELY Borat in Season Two

yes?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't watch that show anymore. i loved it, but i get too embarrassed for people. i was never good when it came to practical jokes. i did like that brit guy who dressed up like a squirrel though. he was cute. (on comedy central)

is there a thread on the u.k. queer eye for the straight guy!!! i had no idea! i just saw an ad for it. has it already been shown in england?

roger, how was your trip sown south? did you make it okay? how's yer new place?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

borat in the cowboy bar leading a singalong of his anti-jew song was a sight to see. that i have to say.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, that was one of my favorites. I've been trying to downlaod that song.

Fun was had down south, Scott, thanks for asking. The new house rules. I'm really happy / excited. Hope if yr ever in town you come by to play some Peruvian psych rock trivia!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

borat borat borat

g--ff (gcannon), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing the guy on the Daily Show cycle thru personas instanteously was cool.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

BORAT this season, definitely on the strength of "In My Country There is a Problem(Throw The Jew Down The Well)".
That redneck singalong thing is probably the best thing I've ever seen on that show.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 20 August 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That is by far the most classic moment.

Maybe not 'by far,' actually

I like the one where he's trying to buy the house and he talks about keeping his wife in a cage

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, when is the show on again?

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

sunday night at 10pm?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

you gotta get HBO On Demand. You can watch, like, seven in a row

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

BORAT!

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Hands down.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat sounds like the name of a Klingon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hey! i have that, i think!

okay, first ep: "Respek".

hee hee. Sam Donaldson.

xp

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

there can't be too many episodes left this season, they only do 6 at a time.

Anyone know anything about the UK show?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

is there a thread on the u.k. queer eye for the straight guy!!! i had no idea! i just saw an ad for it. has it already been shown in england?

Heh. I feel, as a "Queer Eye" fanatic, I must respond to this.

Yes, the "Queer Eye" UK eps that Bravo is going to air have already been aired in the UK. What they're going to do is take four eps from the already existent list of eps from the UK series and air them Stateside. I suppose if the ratings for the UK eps are high enough, they might air the eps on a regular basis, on Wednesday nights, I'm assuming, since they'll already be airing on that night.

I can't wait. I loved the one they already aired, of Barra Fitzgibbon, the "voiceover guy" who ended up a lovely Ewan McGregor lookalike. The wife's reaction was too adorable! She literally fell over. I think Dane, that Australian interior design guy, and Julian, the fashion guy, are SO VERY droolable. (Especially Dane, who actually made me wish I was a gay guy.) Tristan (grooming guy) was pretty cool, but no Kyan, Jason (culture guy) was a bit too out there for my likes, and Peyton -- actually, Peyton (the "food & wine" guy) was pretty cool. Certainly no Ted, who I think is probably the coolest of all the "Queer Eye" guys, but still, pretty cool.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(Why do I not put all of this up on the "Queer Eye" thread? Because I'm lazy, that's why.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat sounds like the name of a Klingon.

you're probably more accurate than you'd believe...

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I will definitely watch the next ones! Was it a big hit in the U.K.? It must have been. Although, they have their fair share of home makeover shows.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

"In My Country There is Problem" --> http://homepage.mac.com/njenson/movies/cowboyband.html

g--ff (gcannon), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

harf harf harf

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I will definitely watch the next ones! Was it a big hit in the U.K.? It must have been. Although, they have their fair share of home makeover shows.

I believe it's a modest hit, though not as successful (oddly enough) as the US version. That's what I'm hearing, anyway.

Hm. Just went to the Bravo site and found out they're showing FIVE of the episodes from the UK. I don't think that's every single ep the UK series has made thus far, so maybe they'll continue showing the rest contingent on ratings, as I mentioned above. Anyway, yeah, I'm definitely going to be watching as well!!

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Now Borat is at a wine-tasting, and bawling about how his mother never loved him.

"You must hug me!"

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

that one's great. I wonder if he really gets drunk. It sure looks like it

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

He said he did on Jimmy Kimmel the other night. He drank 15 glasses!

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"say 'Ach Ja' for good, and 'Nicht Nicht' for bad."

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"Was the record for the World's Tallest Man set at the Olympics?"

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"Jah" is on right now.

"So they would not behave like the other chocolate face?"

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 20 August 2004 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"Fo' the young people out there who can't afford condoms, would you recommend usin' a Doritos bag?"

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat in any season, any time, any place.
Re: "Throw the Jew Down the Well", I wonder if SBC expected that sort of raucous reaction from the Arizona crowd. Usually people are wierded out by Borat and don't take to him with that sort of enthusiasm.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 20 August 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.goyk.com/flash.asp?path=166

Borat, Friday, 20 August 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

They are both excellent within their own fields. So is the gay bloke, Bruno. It was very funny last week.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat is hysterical. The wine tasting one with the pics of his "sister". "We play husband and wife."

Also when he goes to go yoga and busts out the roger rabbit in the plum smugglers.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 20 August 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

borat> Ali G.

i love the one when he goes along with that born again guy running for local office. too good.

Ali G gets props for Sister Fister.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 20 August 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat's better, maybe beause he hasn't had the same overexposure as Ali G.

My favourite moment: He's talking to someone at a dating agency about what he looks for in a woman, and goes, 'If she cheats on me, I will crush her.'

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 20 August 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, that dating agency one is classic.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

totally.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat is so my Turkish (ex?) brother in law.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"i have to uhh how you say... make a shit."

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been using "In the ghetto, or on the train to Auschwitz?" in conversation.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

wow i'm surprised how so many people still like Borat tho i have not seen the new stuff.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

g--ff (gcannon), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i was waiting for a brit to wander in and sigh heavily at us.

g--ff (gcannon), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I also love the one where he sings the Kazhakstahni national anthem at a baseball game and it goes on for about ten minutes. He's got some serious balls.

*sighs heavily at --g--ff*

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Kinda endearing how this thread is mostly Americans.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

we do enjoy our Situationists.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat is still reasonably popular in the UK - Ali G less so perhaps. Borat was never really my cup of tea anyway though, some bits very hard to not laugh at but no more than Avid Merrion - but the general 'let's annoy and embarass people' schtick never my thing.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I think the joke has been well and truly killed over here now, as evidenent in this thread: You know when something has absolutely no street value left part 26: Ali G

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

THE UK VERSION IS WAY BETTER.

CHICKEN DIPPERZZZ!!!!!

"I'm totally into abortions. I's been responsible for at least five."

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha, you really can't blame Rooney for just straight saying, "You're wasting my time."

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit! turn on CNN! He's going to be on "to answer charges of antisemitism" on Anderson Cooper 360.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 23 August 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That Rooney stuff was classic.

dean? (deangulberry), Monday, 23 August 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHAHAH people are pissed about the Borat "Throw the Jew Down the well" skit

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 23 August 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

aw fuck. 90 seconds about the Borat sketch. Sacha wasn't on at all.

what a gyp.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 23 August 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I missed that, but am I wrong in assuming that Sascha Baron Cohen is himself jewish?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 23 August 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"say hello to Austrian gay t.v.!" that was really funny.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 23 August 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

he is jewish, i believe.

dean? (deangulberry), Monday, 23 August 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man scott that wrestler dude looked soooo pissed.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 23 August 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

SBC is Jewish.
Jewish comedians make fun of Jews all the time ... there are LOADS of Jewish jokes on the Ali G series.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

He was really making fun of European anti-semitism though - there really arefolk songs like that.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the Ali G programme was quite poor last night.

I think the man who wanted to hunt jews on his ranch was in fact a set-up or a stooge or whatever.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ali G. movie is truly atrocious, at least after the first five minutes of fantasy sequence. (wakes up from erotic dream to find dog licking his balls under the covers - "wha'ever" - then goes back to sleep).

The recent Ali G. bit at the farm was depressing as all get out. It's hard to watch him confuse "veteran" with "veterinarian," while that poor farmer looks like he's going to cry/shoot himself.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Borat, I choose you.

P.O.K.E. (Barima), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the bit about hunting jews on a ranch? Was that in one of the American eps this season? I thought I watched them all!

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

watching the ep of Borat at the self-defense place

"what is, uh, best move to silence a woman?"

"what is best way to defend from jew?"

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"this is a song, from, uh, the Music Factory. C and C."

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that self-defence segment was even more outrageous than the "In My Country There is a Problem" segment.

... "he come with the CLAW" ... "the CLAW" ... "with the CLAW" .... "the CLAW" ... "... and he come with the CLAW" ...

I recently found this
interview
with Danny Passmore, the self-defense expert in that segment. Borat fans will surely enjoy it (as well as the rest of the site)!

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

He began by telling me that his country's premiere had killed two opponents with his bare hands and wanted to know how many opponents Bush had killed. I explained that our President defeated his opponents with his brains.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

He also asked me how to beat off beggars without receiving a fine.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

jeez, the ep of Ali at the Women's March is like the main one i like.

"so, what, you's a virgin?"
"yes"
"HAHAHAHAHa sorry, didn't wanna laugh, but..."

and the whole "beatboxing-during-We-Shall-Overcome" bit

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Thursday, 26 August 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for pointing out that interview. Happy time.

According to that site, the ranch thing wasn't shown in America, it was on here as part of the two special editions called 'Television Programme Borat', which also featured Bruno. I suppose it was bits of the American series.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 26 August 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Having read that site, I think I am wrong about it being a set-up. I apologise for any distress caused.

In Variety today, they mention that this script just sold -- and that it was written by Tom Lennon and Ben Garant of "Reno 911"/"The State"/"Viva Variety" fame... now I am deeply excited.

So did anyone ever find an MP3 of "Throw the Jew Down the Well"?

Rodeo in Salem gets unexpected song rendition
A man purportedly from Kazakhstan launched into a diatribe instead of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

by Laurence Hammack
981-3239
The Roanoke Times

No one knows for sure who he was, that Middle Eastern man in an American flag shirt and a cowboy hat who was supposed to sing the national anthem at a rodeo Friday night in the Salem Civic Center.

But he sure shook up this town before leaving in a hurry.

Introduced as Boraq Sagdiyev from Kazakhstan, he was said to be an immigrant touring America. A film crew was with him, doing some sort of documentary. And he wanted to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" to show his appreciation, the announcer told the crowd...

[...]

"...And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq," he continued, according to Robynn Jaymes, who co-hosts a morning radio show with Sharp and was also among the stunned observers.

[...]

Once the film crew members and their star realized the severity of the situation, Bobby Rowe said, "they loaded up the van and they screeched out of there..."
