My equifax report and imminent appointment with mortgage advisor....... I'm scared

I got a copy of my credit report as Kev and I are meeting with an advisor tonight to discuss getting a mortgage. I went a bit daft when I was younger and left a few unpaid debts at previous addresses. I haven't been able to get credit since, but haven't wanted it.

I was worried that there would be loads of defaults etc on my report, but there is only one showing and that is the company I am currently making payments to. They have however listed every late payment and I suspect that this, and the fact that I have never had a credit card are contributing to my shit credit score.

Do I need to declare to the advisor the other debts (which are old and I can't actually remember how much they are), or just what's on my report?

Will I get a mortgage????

Whats on your report will be all that matters to them. If I got a mortgage, you should have no problem.

debt/income ratio is the most important thing.

It's not "daft" to leave unpaid bills, it's irresponsible, fraudulent and criminal. Just so you know.

And yes, I have been fucked over by cunts who do this.

Are you British Gas, Mark?

I've always thought it was stupid that never having had a credit card gives you an automatic 'bad' credit rating.

Of course I was irresposible etc etc. I was also scared shitless. Who's idea was it to give an eighteen year old credit? I took all I could then panicked and ran....

Archel, I got nailed by Italian gas (or whatever they're called) - £330 in unpaid gas bills when I was an impoverished student living in a shitty flat in Bologna. Ooh, it makes my blood boil.

Yeah, it's all the man's fault, rumpy.

Would they run a credit check on both of us, or just the main breadwinner? God I hate that word....

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Friday, 20 August 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

both of you if it's a joint mortgage.

Why did you have to pay someone else's bill? Is that common? Maybe I have been lucky...

Archel (Archel), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

My bowels are like water today with worry. Kev's credit is crap as well - he couldn't get credit for a telly because the only credit he has is for his car, £10,000 paid faithfully over however many months. It's stoopid you need debt to get credit.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

well the rules in the UK are probably different than the US, but like I said debt to income ratio matters most.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the idea of that.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Friday, 20 August 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

if you debt-to-income ratio and credit scores are shitty, it can jeopardize your mortgage. you might have to ask for a smaller loan, secondard financing, or possibly go with another lender.

i underwrite this shit alla day long.
