This post is probably of interest to only one other poster. But nevertheless the Bees royally whupped the asses of the Modboys (or whatever Paul Weller based nickname Woking have) at the weekend while I was otherwise engaged in drinking.

Come on you Reds (even if you do wear orange- my perenial chant from the Underhill terraces).

Madchen is from Woking as I recall.....

Never been to watch Barnet, but I remember Underhill featuring in a youth club car treasure hunt when I was seventeen. The clue which took us there was "Beryl drives a Vauxhall to the Conference"...there being a Beryl Underhill at the church where the youth club met.

Fuck off.

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That was a slightly grudging but good natured fuck off, by the way. Not an evil bitch fuck off.

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well I did post it to illicit that response. This is just to show all you glory fans that life in the Conference is a gutsy ruff and tumble place.

And that Woking are shit - ha ha.

That was a slightly grudging but good natured Woking are shit, by the way. Not an evil bastard Woking are shit.

Nickname?

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nickname? You mean of Woking? The Cards, because they were originally the team of the Cardinal pub, and this is why they play in red. Come on you reds, indeed. Except their kit is now red/white/black, but still.

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well its better than Barnet who are called the Bees because their name begins with B.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Glory Fans? Conference? Barnet? Woking? WTF? GLORY FANS?
What does supporting Leyton Orient make me, Pete?
Enduring image, isn'tit? Wasn't it? hhhhhhhhhh...

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aren't Brentford called the Bees, too? For precisely the same reason? Those wacky creative, imaginative footy types...

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

At least the O's (hmm, lower division London club trend is starting to appear here) are in the Football League. They read yoiu results out on the radio. They are in Metro. Conference fans (which I thought I would never lower myself to be again) are forever stuck trying to glean information off of other peoples back pages, hidden in the small print that even insurance companies aren't allowed to use any more. And with only one team going back up we will be there forever.

When the high point of your season is getting into the 3rd round of the FA cup you know its bad.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

3rd round of the FA Cup? Luxury! And I support a div 1 team. Sigh.

Though - I did make the best purchase of my life on QXL the other day - a mint 20-stamp sheet illustrating Lawrie Sanchez's header in the '88 FA Cup final! The man is a god. And only £4.50! Result!

Mark C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We didn't even make the first round of the blasted FA Cup. The, er, mighty Newport County knocked us out and deprived us of a much needed £20,000. Tsch.

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Chesterfiald play at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday, I sense an early exit, especially after we got stuffed by Enfield the season before last.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Look, just face it. You're all shit.

Ally C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That was an evil bastard 'you're all shit' btw, rather than a good- natured one.

Ally C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah, cos Rangers swept the board last season didn't they?

Chesterfield have played Rangers once by the way Ally, they beat your boys in a two leg semi-final on the way to winning the Anglo-Scottish cup in, erm 1982 iirc. I was at the home leg, Rangers were rubbish.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Plus ca change...
