Over a planned coup in Equatorial Guinea, apparently.

I think this qualifies as a major diplomatic situation...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I blame the parents.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's strangely heartening to still be getting stories of Mark Thatcher being a prat.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I know absolutely nothing about the political situation in Equatorial Guinea, incidentally, its government could be complete brutal fuckers and the entire country could be better off without them for all I know. But still, my first reaction was "Yes! Take that you twat." I'm not sure if this is something I should be proud of.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

who is mark thatcher, please.

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Son of Margaret, got in hot water a few years back for dodgy arms deals and the like.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

And running out of petrol in the middle of a desert.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

and the good news is, jeffery archer might be involved as well!

(i also know little about the situation, but saw a 10 minute thing on newsnight)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? All we need is Neil Hamilton and we'll have the hat trick.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Aitken could surely help with this sort of thing?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

margaret thatcher
jeffery archer
michael heseltine
john major
virginia bottomley, especially

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(no one's going ot get that, are they?)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Is is S*M*A*S*H?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

They need that Catweasel-esque guy who had the secret gay toyboy to come back. Gerry something?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Adams.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(well done alba)

("gill shepard's got an appalling unemployment record" was the next line...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not actually sure I've ever heard S*M*A*S*H's own appalling record - it has just passed into mythology.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i own it on 12" i would donate it to the indie amnesty, but realise it would earn 5p, if that...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It would be gratifying to see this FUCKINg SKANK get his comeuppance for once.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Least deserved knighthood evah? I do realise there are lots of contenders for that.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, my 1st reaction too was "ha!"

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

He never got a knighthood, he inherited his title from his drunken old sot of a father - who was made a baronet or some rubbish like that. For some reason, and in spite of the overwhelming competition, I find him to be the single most unpleasant human being on the planet - even his mother's better!

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

He seems to have 'evolved' into the evil twin of Les Dennis - look at him!

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Even his sister can't stand the sight of him - his dolally old bag of a mother dotes on him tho

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Is 'Scratcher' the most easily penetrated codename ever? He lives on your street! He's your friend!

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"Wanker" would have been just as easy to penetrate

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, at least one of his hands would be busy...

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

His sister appears to have mutated into Jimmy Savile in some of the photos adorning today's papers. Which unfortunately I can't find online anywhere.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The man is scum.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

In a bizarre development Sir Mark's court appearance was delayed when he was robbed in a crowded holding cell.

His shoes, jacket and cell phone were taken, according to a court official who witnessed the attack.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"We let him keep his cell phone when we put him in the cell and someone took it from him! BIZARRE!"

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

So Jeffrey Archer was there after all

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

We need to keep calling him Sir Mark as much as possible, just to remind everyone how crap hereditary honours are.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I don't know why this guy came into my head the other day, but really, a £265,000 fine was all he got? What's he doing now?

jergins (jergins), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 00:26 (nineteen years ago)

Cocaine?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 00:31 (nineteen years ago)
