What effect do we think this will have on the election, seriously? and what of accompanying events, like Barnes' interview?

Normally I don't support these kinds of books, but this is one of the ugliest campaigns anyone's seen - Bush's current policies should be ample reason to throw him out of office head over heels, but judging from recent polls, he might survive. A little more character assassination might come in handy.

The great unwashed will be more swayed by Ms Kelley than by 100,000 angry liberals.

if Kerry wins, he'll be riding possibly the largest wave of left-wing goodwill ever for getting Bush out, no matter left-wingers' reservations about him.

I am not entirely convinced of that, stevie.

Page 253: At Andover, George W. Bush writes a morose essay about his sister's death. Searching for a synonym for "tears," he consults a thesaurus and writes, "And the lacerates ran down my cheeks." A teacher labels the paper "disgraceful."

I think we should be able to see all elected, or even famous, people's homework. It would be funny, and it would scare the hell out of kids doing homework now.

that tear-lacerate line should be excelsiored.

Being that I have a flight today (to Texas, no less), I was this close to picking up this book....but didn't feel like lugging a hardcover around (I sprang for Woody Allen's collected prose instead...which ought to provide almost as much laughs).
