Europe's best affordable city. Go to the Gellert baths and eat at Cafe Kor. The die happy, fat and sweaty.

Then die...

go to a restaurant called the marquis de salade - it's fantastic. almost as good as its name.

apparently they love MEAT so much there that you can get MEAT for dessert.

christ - I've just remembered STATUE PARK! how could I have forgotten this: http://www.szoborpark.hu/en/en_index.php

I must go to Budapest.

it's funny how little traffic this thread is getting, as compared to similar ones for Berlin or Prague. poor Budapest.

wonderful, amazing city (go see a concert at the liszt ferenc music school if you can, it's all art nouveau up the ass and gorgeous)

How can you get any cooler than this?

the statue park is rather crap. it isn't a park, with statues dumped in, as I had hoped it would be. they're all on brick plinths and really spaced out and there is gravel and they sell latex lenin masks and "simply red" "tour t-shirts" with famous communists and, like, dates on or something. some of the statues are really big, though.

one month passes...
yeah. The tourist map I got when I booked my flights has an add in it for a call-girls agency. Nice.

so anyway, the Gellert Baths, classic or dud?

also, taking sides, Buda or Pest?

six years pass...

i'll only have a few days here - wondering if statue park is worth blowing an entire afternoon on?

Gellert baths were lame and $$$$. Not dissimilar experience to blue lagoon in Iceland. I am sure the less trafficked baths are amazing.

Budapest is a fabulous city. Hungarian food is slowly revealing its charms. I think perhaps it is not an August cuisine. Hungarian wine however is immediate and lovely.

i had a couple amazing meals in budapest. my dinner at fulemule was one of the best meals ive had in my life

max, Tuesday, 13 August 2013 14:13 (twelve years ago)

also i thought the doner kebabs i had in budapest were better than the ones i had in istanbul!

max, Tuesday, 13 August 2013 14:14 (twelve years ago)

We almost went to fulemule! Best meal was at not-hugely-english speaking Kadar Etkezde. Dude at our hotel lol'd when I asked about it but upon further thought endorsed it. Shit was good and super cheap. I think Hungarian food would be more appealing on a global scale if they found a more appetizing way to translate "boiled beef."

adam, Tuesday, 13 August 2013 20:14 (twelve years ago)

hahaha

my memory of fulemule is that its mostly parts of one kind of fowl stuffed into parts of another kind of fowl in increasingly decadent ways, plus cabbage noodles.

we also had a good meal at muzeum

and then we stumbled on a great, life-savingly cheap little sausage and beer place up on castle hill where everything else was absurdly expensive

I recently went to Prague for the first time; spent most of it wishing I was in Budapest.
