I think I have gone insane

I am seriously contemplating dropping a bid on this.

I used to own one years ago. It went wrong a lot. These cars were notorious rotboxen, and my old one looked as good as this but was as rusty as fuck underneath.

But, look at it.

Fuck.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Did it have any significant advantages over the Hillman Imp?

Aww, it's cute!

Quote - "it needs some loving, and (ahem) 'minor repair'"

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I misread "no reserve" as "no reverse" and thought "that car would be really hard to parallel park!"

As of this morning, I desire a Bricklin SV-1, preferably in Suntan, White or even Green.

Look at it.

Fuck.

THE MILLAGE IS GENUINE

I'm flip flopping between desiring an Enfield Bullit, (5-speed, kick start), BMW R1200GS, and a Moto Guzzi Breva/

The problem with this is - there is no mention of the condition of the bodywork. That's the kicker. The engine is basically the same unit as in the morris minor and mini, and is just about unburstable. these things can look great, but nevertheless be dangerously rotten underneath. If the underbody and bulkhead are fine, it's relatively easy to keep it in good condition. If it's rotten underneath, then you can easily be looking at 3000 uk pounds upwards to get it back on the road. If the bulkhead is rotten, it's a scrapper, no matter how good it looks otherwise. If this thing was in the north of england, I'd have bid on it nevertheless, but it's 300 miles away. Gah.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

but it's really *cute*

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Why don't you email the seller and ask about the bodywork? It is cute.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

This morning I want a Vespa.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

How do you say bulkhead in Murkin? I will join the consensus so far formed and admit it is pretty cute.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

the metal wall between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment. I'm going to stop looking at it for a while. I'll email the seller tonight.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

jones (actual), Friday, 10 September 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

you can park it in your yamaha cs-80!

jones (actual), Friday, 10 September 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I just mailed and asked about the condition of the bodywork.

The cuteness of ado16s, and specifically the Wolseley version, is part of the problem. Every time our old one crapped out, we'd be like LET'S SCRAP IT, BLOODY MONEY-PIT then we'd look at it, laid up at the side of the motorway. Aahhh, poor little thing, doesn't it look all folorn, we have to look after it etc etc etc.

Why did auto manufacturers ever stop making cars with gull-wing doors?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 10 September 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

you may want to check out this, nickalicious:

It is rather expensive, but no doubt beautifully put together.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 September 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard gullwing doors were difficult.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 10 September 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The guy sent me some pictures. While it's nowhere near being beyond salvage. it's a bit more than I'd like to take on right now. Oh well.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 11 September 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

By which I mean, if I had a garage, and it was located less than 100 miles from me, I'd bid on it.
