Stars and sports figures say snappy things about ketchup on bottles
PITTSBURGH (AP) — What do Mia Hamm, Terry Bradshaw, William Shatner and Lindsay Lohan have in common?
The answer: ketchup.
They have signed on with Heinz to “Say Something Ketchuppy” on limited-edition bottles of the condiment. The bottles will feature labels with quotes from each celebrity. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the bottles will benefit charities chosen by each celebrity, the company said recently.
Lohan’s take is simple. “Burger-licious,” the 18-year-old actress says on the label. Hamm, just back from the Olympic games, says the ketchup is “Worthy as Gold.” And former Star Trek star Shatner says Heinz “Fixes Burgers at Warp Speed.”
Bradshaw, former quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has a label saying “Served at the Immaculate Reception,” a reference to his 1972 pass to Franco Harris.

somehow I doubt those people actually said those things.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

What are you, some kind Hunt'sist?

Huk-L, Monday, 20 September 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

nope. Just saying.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(I actually prefer Heinz and am not related to anybody who makes ketchup with the same name as my last name. I also don't have any wealthy family members in the oil or trucking businesses, either.)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(I do have a brother named Mike though.)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(okay, just kidding on that last bit.)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not even sure how these are supposed to make the ketchup more appealing. I mean, it's KETCHUP. Either you love it, or you belong in jail.

(i don't know your last name)

Huk-L, Monday, 20 September 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

(my last name is the same as Heinz's major competitor, Huck.)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not at stupid as the Bush-supporting "W" brand ketchup.

wetmink (wetmink), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(that's rather creepy that I made that comment then)

Huk-L, Monday, 20 September 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Heinz really need to do this? I mean, everyone buys Heinz ketchup anyway.

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

not creepy, I'm used to it.

briania (briania), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean that it was a creepy, ironic coincidence that I made that comment. Not that I made fun of your name, which I wouldn't, because there are so many other things to make fun of you for.

Huk-L, Monday, 20 September 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ouch. I guess I'm not used to it.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 20 September 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Just kidding! I love you! Just kidding! I respect you.

Huk-L, Monday, 20 September 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha well I've heard that one before.

There was a feature on ketchup on the newswires a few months ago that said ketchup was invented by the Chinese, who made it with fish instead of tomatoes. WTF, then it's FISH SAUCE, numbnuts!

Ketchup in England tastes weird.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if it's the same weird ketchup they have in India. We (the US kids) used to eat our french fries with mustard there because the ketchup didn't taste right.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Weird how? No tomatoes?

Nemo (JND), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It tastes kinda sweet and vinegary over there (UK) in my experience where ours is kinda more salty.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's sweeter.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Even Heinz is different? Is nothing sacred?

Nemo (JND), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think they had Heinz, just Indian brands in India. Kind of like how they didn't have Coke, just Thums Up! and others that were also sweeter/less tart than real Coke. I think they were stingy about which brands they would let in. After I left (in '95), some American companies like KFC started to try and bring US fast food in, but it was never that successful.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought nemo meant in the UK... i want to try this mystical salty ketchup of the USA!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It is suggary for a reason: to compliment bacon sarnies.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The ketchup I had in India was really spicey, not sweet like in the UK.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Heinz ketchup in the U.S. is sweet (there's lots of corn syrup in it), but the predominant taste is tangy/salty.

Nemo (JND), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

There is always more to learn about ketchup:

Nemo (JND), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Another thing recently learnt about ketchup: You do/don't have to refrigerate it after you open the bottle.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 22 October 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I currently live by myself and there's no way that I could possibly finish an enitre ketchup bottle before it went bad without refridgerating it. However, cold ketchup is about the worst thing in the world to put on your food. So I just hoarde the individual ketchup packets from fast food places.

In Australia, whenever I wanted ketchup for my potatoes, I had to ask for "tomato sauce". Tomato sauce? If ketchup is tomato sauce, then what's that red stuff on my Australian pizza?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 22 October 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Tomato Paste

Huk-L, Friday, 22 October 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I f*cking love Ketchup.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 22 October 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

that red stuff on my Australian pizza?

Tomato Puree innit?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 22 October 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Y'all are just getting silly now.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Friday, 22 October 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

They're saying snappy things about ketchup.
