What's the deal with ILX image links sometimes generating pics and then sometimes generating ihttp link etc.?

I've noticed that sometimes certain pic links via the "ihttp://" method will work (i.e. post the pic successfully) and sometimes they won't. (instead posting something like ihttp://bladdy.blah.com/some.jpg...)

I just had the latter happen to me today, and I think it was because it was a rather large pic.

Whoever is in charge of the code, is there a real-time check on image pic size done before it is translated to a pic or link? or is this just a weird random bug?

There's a check on image pic size done before translation.

Aaah. Not a bad idea, actually. What's the spec on this though? is it a check against too much width or length? or just a file size comparison? or both? what about animated gifs?

I do recommend this going in the FAQ, though. I think many have been puzzled by this.

ya, I reccomend the FAQ be corrected about the img src nonsense

i think it is just a dimension check at this point (both)

Your pics can't be too tall, apparently.

It is a dimension check: if your photographs extend into the third or fourth dimension, they are smacked down.

It does it when there's a dodgy character in the URL too, e.g. ( and )

I just imagined Phil Collins singing "dodgy character in the URL tonight, hold on!"

When there's a ) or ( in the URL, it freaks out: What's a warmleatherette?

It does a height/width check. Currently the maximum width/height is 800/600. The suggestion at having the images summarised is a pretty good one, I think. I'll look into implementing it.

But with ihttp...etcetera you can't add dimensions to reduce image size, can you? And < img src=http... etcetera > doesn't work, does it?
