The first car this guy hit was my dad's car. He's fine but the car is in the shop.

My issue is as follows: This happened Wednesday; why did I just hear about it THIS MORNING???

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Saturday, 25 September 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

! Um er uh. Maybe they didn't want you to feel worried?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 September 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

jeez! glad your dad is ok though!

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 25 September 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, tell me about it! My mom wakes me up with a phone call this morning that's all "Oh hi sweetite! How are you? Just wanted you to know that someone had a head-on collision with your father on Wednesday but he's okay. So how's work?"

I haven't even seen his car yet and it's already been messed up. OH, and did I mention that the asshat who did this doesn't have insurance?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Saturday, 25 September 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the shit week for ILX-related car stories, but admittedly your dad simultaneously takes the cake and had the luckiest break at the same time. I recommend your brother drown the guy in a lawsuit that makes the one in Bleak House seem like a case for Judge Wapner.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 September 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

argh! what does that mean for him though, will your dad's cover his own damages? will his premiums go up? is it even legal not to have insurance?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 25 September 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not legal for dude to not have insurance. Dad's insurance will cover it but I don't know what that will do to the premiums. I think Dad has filed a claim against this guy.

Full details as far as my mom remembers (Dad doesn't want to talk about it until we're face to face so he can act it out; haha so much about me is explained): Dad is driving in the left lane of the northbound oside of a divided highway. There is traffic on the right so he can't move over and the road goes up a hill and curves at the top. As he's cresting the top and going into the curve, Dad sees this guy going south on the northbound side of the road in Dad's lane. Dad can't move over without causing an accident, so he stops the car and lays on the horn, thinking dude will stop. However, dude apparently had his head down as if he was asleep and smacks into the front of dad's car at about 30 mph. This wakes dude up! Dad thinks, "Okay, now we'll get off the road and we will talk about this" which is Dadspeak for "I am going to intense this little boy into submission". Dad pulls off the road and expects dude to do so as well. Instead, dude backs up ONTO THE MEDIAN and, while in reverse, sideswipes three cars on the southbound side of the highway. Then, to the shock and awe of all watching, dude drives DOWN THE MEDIAN heading south around the curve and down the hill, at which point he veers back into the northbound lane and has another head-on collision.

So far they've been able to determine that dude is diabetic and are hypothesizing that his errratic behavior is medically-induced. I want them to check for meth.

my god.

I have a feeling you've seen this before.

Man, this is really fucked up. If it IS just medical...well, some doctor is a fuck-up or else the patient is irresponsibly doofy. But meth is a good starting point.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 September 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

my god.

TELL ME ABOUT IT

I have a feeling you've seen this before.

TELL ME ABOUT IT

(I think the "Insurance? What insurance?" portion of the story points more towards "irresponsibly doofy" than it does toawrds a doctor's liability.)

Ah, that is true. A combination leading to a royal flush of Le Asshatterie.

South St. Paul is a locus of stupidity in the Twin Cities. In the local dialect it is pronounced 'sow-sain-pawl'.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 25 September 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, when people in HASTINGS look at you and say "wow you are dum", you're pretty dumb.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Saturday, 25 September 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I am waiting for Joe Lieberman to come out of hiding and blame this on Burnout 3.

I thought the same thing. SIGNATURE TAKEDOWN!

Dumbest town in the Twin Cities: Savage. Chrome-plated, hawg-exhaust TOOPID (average IQ 3.2).

(hahahaha SAVAGE! Man I miss the TC suburbs.)

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah, because someone who might be a diabetic might have mismanaged his drugs, you're already talking about suing the doctor?? Only in America.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Dad doesn't want to talk about it until we're face to face so he can act it out; haha so much about me is explained)

haha your dad sounds awesome

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, no one is talking about suing a doctor and it's really bizarre that you made that leap here.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad you're dad is okay, though. I told the story a few months ago about the guy who deliberately caused an accident and blamed my dad for it - my dad ended up having to have surgery on his hand for that, and his car was totaled. He didn't tell me how bad his hand was until it was too late. The Illinois State Police officer is still insisting that he caused the accident - even though he didn't witness it.

Good luck with the ensuing bureaucracy.

k3rry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

There are far too many witnesses that put this on the diabetic guy.
