Larry Cum Laude!

College is tough for Larry - he's basically a pathetic loser who occasionally gets out and hits on chicks, but things always go horribly wrong. When a reality TV dating show comes to campus, Larry decides he's going to revitalize his life by winning the contest and proving once and for all that he can live up to the shining example set by his Old Uncle Larry.

Follow Larry's hilarious exploits and misadventures in the wackiest college story ever. Updated for the 21st century with 3D graphics, engaging real-time conversations, and a fully realized college campus, Larry is back to give gamers some lovin'. Remember, it's not about who you impress, but who you get to undress!

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck Eddy LOVES this game!

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

is LSL the HOOTERS of video games?

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never been to Hooters. My father in-law says that the BBQ is really good.

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"engaging real-time conversations"!

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

WOW

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to play this game as a kid on my pc jr and 386 (remember 5' 1/4" floppies?) here was their way of verifying age.. you had to answer general culture/political questions to "prove" you were at least 18. like every kid didn't watch "jeopardy" with their parents to not know the answers to these questions.. shuh!

anyway, yeah, it was sierra's attempt to be "naughty". the jokes got really really old after a while. is sierra still developing this game? oh that's right, they folded, didn't they? oh well.. hahahahahahahah.

i think the lord didn't intend for certain games to enter the 3 dimensional era.

m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

cough

hahaha! the lord!

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm concerned by that Andre the Giant poster.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, is this the first time you heard of leisure suit larry?

seriously?

larry is like, 80s, dude.

CntlAllDell, Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, is this the first time you heard of leisure suit larry?

Where on this thread did I ever give that impression???

I was born just a few months before the PISTOLS split up, man!

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh duh... should have read the subject. sorry, adam. :(

CntlAllDell, Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Larry was my hero when I was like 11, 12, 13. Then I realized that he looked a bit like my dad...

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

...and then he became even more of your hero.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember this game ever getting ported to the zx spectrum.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

remember larry 3? you switched to becoming passionate patty halfway through.. it was really weird, but kinda cool in retrospect.

is there going to be a leather suit gary or a lezzy suit terri to exploit those niche markets?

CntlAllDell, Saturday, 25 September 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Larry 3 was GREAT!!!!!!

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 26 September 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

uh oh

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 26 September 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope this means SpaceQuest and PoliceQuest could make a comeback.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 26 September 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The cream always rises to the top, yes it does.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 26 September 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHAHAH POLICE QUEST WAS THE MOST FUCKING RACIST PC GAME EVER. THE CONSULTANT ON THAT GAME WAS FUCKING DARYLL GATES OF THE L A P D. I PUT A FUCKING FATWAH ON SIERRA FOR THAT EVER FUCKING SINCE.

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

A fatwah of fucking? How is this a punishment?

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ITS PUNISHMENT WHEN YOU GLUE SPIKES ON YOUR COCK AND THROW SANDPAPER IN THE ASS OF DARYLL GATES AND HIS SIERRA BITCHEZ!

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

You must have excellent aim.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

IT HELPS WHEN YOU KEEP GATES AND THE POSSE RESTRAINT.. I LEARNED MY FUCKING WAYS FROM THE LAPD THEMSELVES. THE EYERAWNY! HOHO!

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Throwing sandpaper into the asses of Daryll Gates and his Sierra Bitchez sounds like a Final Fantasy minigame.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

THATS MY NEW NOISE BAND NAME....

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

WELL, MY NEW CRUNK POSSE... NOISE CRUNK.

NUNK YALL

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

this game isn't very good.

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

but it is fucking FUNNY.

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you have it for Mac, cutty?

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

3D adventure games are awful. I'm kinda glad they haven't made a Police Quest update. I love that game, and trying to figure out why I can't drive the police car in 3D would probably make me cry.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the 3d Monkey Island game was pretty good. unfortunately, i sold it to move out here.

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

That's one expensive game.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

What was racist about Police Quest? I may have missed a lot. The only thing I remember was "Isn't it great we have affirmative action so people like you can get hired?", which was kind of harsh but was said to a [darker] white guy.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 26 September 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The only thing I remember was "Isn't it great we have affirmative action so people like you can get hired?", which was kind of harsh but was said to a [darker] white guy.

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

UMM^%$%$%$GRRRRKKJDFLD RESIST URGE TO STRANGLE GATES AND SIERRA!!! URRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!

Do you...have some sort of...agenda?

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

No. Just expressing my feelings towards one of the most pathetic examples of human culture in an early PC video game format ever, that's all.

I stopped buying Sierra games after Police Quest for the above reason(s)... thankfully, their entire output after this game started to suck anyway, so good riddance.

CntAllDell, Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

still, surely Sierra'll hurting for cash after HL2 hits later this year(or next april, more likely).

Lt. Kingfish Del Pickles (Kingfish), Monday, 27 September 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Sierra just release a new game called World Domination (or something similar) that looks sort of cool, in their classic cartoony way. Its kind of an Austin Powers take over the world muahaha! thing.

Adventure games are a bit arse.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 27 September 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

seven years pass...

so there's a kickstart campaign to port the original LSL to iOS - my interest is piqued

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 09:42 (fourteen years ago)

I was going to write a long whiny post about the contradiction between my furtive enjoyment of LSL 1 and 2 in super-blocky 16-colour EGA aged 10 and barely understanding some of the key plot points, vs me now as an adult woman who finds the thought of a similar game being made now (especially with realistic hi-res graphics, which I suppose an iphone version will not really have) totally horrible and tacky and demeaning

but now I see I could just paste what someone male wrote 7.5 years ago, and not have to feel like such a prudish killjoy:

i think the lord didn't intend for certain games to enter the 3 dimensional era.
― m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, September 25, 2004 5:32 PM (7 years ago)

PS I am still quite nostalgic for LSL2, which is p. tame, and the bit where every time you stand up on the aeroplane the stewardesses appear out of nowhere and block the aisle with their trolleys is part of our treasured family collection of running jokes about air travel

instant coffee happening between us (a passing spacecadet), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 10:42 (fourteen years ago)

first couple of LSLs are pretty harmless as far as I can remember them from my teenage years

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 12:28 (fourteen years ago)

i think the recent spinoffs have missed the point that they're comedies about a sleazeball and instead tried to be titillating? i don't know, i probably just read that on hardcore gaming 101

thomp, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

tbf it would have been quite difficult to make the originals titillating considering the graphics they had at their disposal

Number None, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 12:42 (fourteen years ago)

I remember reading about this kickstart campaign. The interesting thing was that a large contribution earns you a trip to vegas where you limo travel with the game creators and voice guy or something along those lines. I'd rather see a new Larry than remakes with bits of changed dialog even though I may have only played 5 and 6.

Kicstart game campaigns are a pretty cool way to rock old adventure game programmers/artists out of retirement.
