Huevos Rancheros: Classic (a valid case for dud does not exist.)

Perhaps the most delicious of breakfast foods, especially if the salsa is fresh. I had some this morning which were amazing; they came with chicken sausage patties. I love.

Agreed, although they usually look better than those pictured above.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 September 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely classic, but more classic than eggs Benedict?

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 26 September 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Eggs benedict = also classic.

The huevos rancheros were made even better by the free bloody marys we somehow ended up with. where have you had the best huevos rancheros? i had the best when I was in new mexico about five years ago visiting my grandparents (who live out there half the year.)

Ian c=====8 (orion), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

huevos rancheros are unbelievably classic. also the angry mexican eggs drinking tequila (pictured above) are totally cute.

Cripps Pink (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Pictures of Mexican food always seem to make it look deeply unappetising. There's a chain of high-street places (UK people - think Little Chef with more chilli) where all the food looked nasty. I settled for pancakes.

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i cannot order this dish without Adam & the Ants' "Los Rancheros" immediately springing to mind -- invariably prompting me to break into wholly unsolicited a capella renditions of same.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 26 September 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I've ever eaten Huevos Rancheros - and now I want to. Where can I get that in Fife?

Here

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

OK thanks. I don't cook much though - I make a great chilli, so maybe this will be a little bit like that,

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Sunday, 26 September 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Todos las personas van a SILK CITY DINER en Philadelphia, para los mejores Huevos Rancheros! Sabor!

My dad makes the fuck out of some huevos rancheros.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That reads differently than you intended.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 27 September 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I though this was gonna be about the surf guitar band from Canada! Classic!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 27 September 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ramblin' Ambassadors are also good!

Huk-L, Monday, 27 September 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Jel I thought that too and assumed it was mistakenly posted here instead of ILM!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 27 September 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn! I wish I had a record player to play my Man or Astro-man?/Huevos Rancheros split single with now!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 27 September 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ramblin Ambassadors is the guitarist's new band.

Huk-L, Monday, 27 September 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait to have the huevos rancheros at the Rio Grande Diner in Espanola, NM

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Monday, 27 September 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Sneaku's has been home to both.
Or at least should have been.

mmmmmmmmm, farty goodness.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 27 September 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I KNEW this would be you posting.

There has been a distinct lack of huevos rancheros in my life lately.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 27 September 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Consider for a moment, that fact may be directly linked to your quote above.

Ain't That Peculiar (kenan), Monday, 27 September 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just going to pop in and represent the dud side here by saying that the idea of eggs + salsa is disgusting to me. I also think eggs + ketchup is nasty. Carry on.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 27 September 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

but eggs, meaty byproducts and meatiness, salsa and fried corn products is surely punk rawk!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 27 September 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Huevos rancheros is totally just a lazy Mexican omelet.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 27 September 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The expression of the right egg in the picture of the eggs with mustaches is priceless for some reason (actually, the whole picture is).

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 27 September 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, so Hurting, when I first saw this title I immediately flashed to Silk City/American Diner Huevos Rancheros so your post was apt

H (Heruy), Monday, 27 September 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, huevos rancheros = classic

H (Heruy), Monday, 27 September 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Previously, the best Huevos Rancheros in San Francisco could be had at Chava's in the Mission. However, it burnt down a few years ago (grease fire or Mexican Mafia?) and the new location that's opened since just isn't the same.

mikef (mfleming), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i gotta post a link my friends' song called "Huevos Rancheros"

the song isn't about Huevos Rancheros, per se, but my favorite line is (and they all LOVE huevos rancheros):

"If you've never had my Huevos Rancheros, you've never been to the promised land"
