I have a lovely Canon PowerShot SD10....with movie mode, but am completely befuddled as to how to get the movies I've shot (little ten second jobs) onto my harddrive. Any tech-heads here know?

I have a Canon and so far I've been using the software that they give you with your camera. When you open the program, it shows the movie and then you just save it to wherever.

With most new modern digital cams, you should just be able to connect it to the computer using the included USB cable; when you plug it in a new "removable drive" should show up in your My Computer (or on the desktop of your Mac, if that's what you're using). When you click on the new drive that shows up on your computer, it should give you direct access to the files without needing to use any software.

It will probably be located inside a directory called DCIM, and then something like 101Canon. The .jpg files are the pics (natch) and I think the Canon may save the files in the same directory but with an .avi or .mov extension.

The program that Canon gives you will probably be more natural if you want to load it, but once you get used to the file structure of the camera, I find that going in directly is a lot quicker.

yeah, mine just go with the pictures via the USB to the hard drive.

How do you edit an .avi so that a 10 second film isn't 2.5MB, can this be done?
