The thread where we reveal the concept art we will never make, and guess what it could mean

Me first: A large room, empty but for the old shoebox filled with monkey shit sitting on a chair placed in the middle of the floor.

What does it mean? It's a statement on the price of property.

If the meaning can be explained in this way, it doesn't qualify as art!

Ordinary looking tin can (sealed) labelled "can of worms" (all lower case; it's an important detail), surrounded by 101 can openers of various sorts arranged with autistic precision.

What does it mean?
Does it mean what?
It does mean - what?
What it does mean...
It means - what does?
Mean? What is does.
Mean it? What does?
It? Does What? Mean!

...and other permutations upon a sentence.

"What a lot of shit-eating drivel" as John S. Hall once said.

The Concept: Woman dressed as stereotyped fifties suburban matron (pink taffetta dress, heels, pearls) takes up residence in New York Gallery, proceeds to prepare every single dish in The Joy of Cooking in the order they appear in the book. Every time a dish is prepared, she ostentatiously serves it to the homeless.

Meaning: Who cares?

* Television set, turned off, old boot resting on top

* Video installation of a man in green tracksuit jumping in and out of a hole.

* A battery on a piece of string

A tea cup filled with water, Lipton tea bag hanging outside of the cup, with the Lipton label on the inside, in the water.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Spiked dog callor added to portrait of Marie Antoinette.

Marie Antoinette bound in leather straps.

Marie Antoinette hanging from ceiling on system of pulleys.

And the pictures get kinkier and kinkier until finally she's guillotined.

I've had the idea for a while for a concept art piece that's actually a web site that serves as a sort of depot for concept art ideas that people came up with but didn't want to actually execut themselves.

A door so big that nobody can open it, stairs that don't work, a kettle full of cement, a lizard in a Kenneth Cole boot, a fireman with a pen in his ear, a CD of sad sad songs, a whistle that hums, a light that sings opera, two children smothered in cocoa butter.

You should write a song about that.

how can stairs not work?

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the concept.

5x5' shallow rubber tray filled with a single, tightly packed layer of 1" ball bearings. Suspended 4' above one end is a sad empty party balloon.
