does it have to be a sit down place? or just a takeaway

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What about good takeaways then?

how many curry houses in London (up to and inc. Zone 6 let's say) have people been to? i'm guessing i've only done 15-20 and i'm no expert (bhuna please, tho the last one i had at my local was hotter than the usual)

There's some very cheap and cheerful ones on Brick Lane. Alba knows of a superb vegetarian one (in Stoke Newington?).

Lahore Kebab House, Whitechapel

rasa samudra on charlotte street is excellent, but it's pricey.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

There are a few Rasas, some vegetarian, like the original one on Church St, Stoke Newington, some not. The Stoke Newington one is much cheaper than the West End ones.

Other suggestions here

I want to try the Parsee, in Highgate, some time.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

We should FA'P' next time you're in London.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a joke about fancying half a Parsee there somewhere.

there's also another curry house in Highgate, called "Kiplings" on North Hill which actually does make exceedingly good curry.

takeaways: hillmarton tandoori on hillmarton road has the crappest storefront but their curry is addictive.

The crappier the storefront the better the curry.

two years pass...

This thread never really got going....

I've pretty much given up on Brick Lane, and I'm not willing to travel to Southall, so I'm usually visiting Drummond Street. The Shah Tandoori is the current fave.

The local one in Vauxhall, The Coriander, isn't bad at all but is quite expensive.

Indian Zing in Hammersmith. Best Indian food I have ever had in my life.

Ben Boyerrr, Saturday, 21 July 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

last time i went to Brick Lane was the Standard Balti House - very good if not anything out of the ordinary.

maybe you should venture down to Tooting, Bob.

blueski, Saturday, 21 July 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

i had one curry at brick lane, it was meant to be a madras but they forgot to put any spice in whatsoever so it was just like bits of chicken in a tomatoe sauce. pretty rank.

coriander off lewisham way is nice. my delight is two sisters in nunhead, though it is takeaway only.

whereabouts in vauxhall is that bob?

never acid again, Saturday, 21 July 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

Kennington Lane, at Vauxhall Station end.

Used to see Steve Severin there sometimes when he was producing the Readers Wifes, who dj at Duckie nearby.

Bob Six, Saturday, 21 July 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

"Whereabouts in Vauxhall is that bob?" sounds like a failed catchphrase from a bygone era.

Alba, Saturday, 21 July 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

cheers.. will check it out as it's close

xpost haha!

The one southern indian veggie curry place on Drummond St I've been to was excellent, but can't remember the name ;_;

Also southern but not veggie, Ragam on Cleveland St, just across from Charlotte St. Has been superb (Matthew Norman called it a 24 carat gem but last time we went the quality seemed to have slipped a bit.

ledge, Sunday, 22 July 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

stick a ) in there somewhere

ledge, Sunday, 22 July 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

Ragam seconded! There is a lot of love for Tayyab around here. It's in Whitechapel around the corner from the mosque.

suzy, Sunday, 22 July 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

Tayyab is great but generally southern Indian food beats northern Indian/Pakistani hands down. The answer to this used to be a *tiny* Goan cafe in Woolwich but nowadays I'd plump for Rasa in Stoke Newington.
