Earlier today, I received this:
Polish magazine "Wiedza i Zycie" (which means "Science and Life") is
preparing a text about hummingbirds.
with this text, we'd like to publish one of your pictures
that I found here.

tell me, please would you grant us permission for publication of this
picture? I'll need it in highrest resolution.

Best regards,

monika dyba

I can't find anything about Monika or "Wiedza i Zycie" on the internet. She got my name off of this board. Does anyone have any clue whatsoever what the hell this is supposed to mean?

I mean, for one thing, I don't have any hummingbird pictures.

Thanks for the compliments, BUT WHAT HUMMINGBIRD PICTURES?

Does anyone know a monika on here? I would've just wrote her back, but when girls in far-off countries start asking me for non-existant photos, I get suspicious.

(Wow, jel. You're like Jim Rockford.)

Hah! It's overspill from my job, I simply have to find things!

Can you tell me what I did with my spare truck key?

All right, to hell with it. I just wrote her back.

four years pass...

http://animalreview.wordpress.com/2008/12/10/hummingbird/

"The common thread in all this is the hummingbird’s addiction to its drug of choice, floral nectar... There’s also a man-made version. Colored bright red to court its hopelessly addicted patrons, this artificial nectar is known on the street by a variety of hummingbird slang terms including: N-train, Sangria del Diablo, Beak Candy, Crimson Tweaker, Beijing Sugar, Kool Aid, Burmese Disco, Potpourri, Big Red, Skrump, Skrimp, Weasel, Cooler, Slurp, The Scarlet Letter, El Capitan, Fraggle Rock, Aqua Roja del Fresno, Sweet Ruby Slipper, and Juice."

three years pass...

this thread has like multiple dimensions of awesome, which i cannot improve.

still, as i doomscroll the world (for which ilx is a but a minor medium), i am outdoors, and near a hummingbird feeder. every few minutes a local, teeny, male broadtail visits to slurp. he is quiet because i guess right now girl is not around. we do also seem to have a demonstrative pair, who like to make noisy visits, and then to sugarfix and chill near here.

anyway, this 5cm green and magenta guy is not zooming, diving, flyby-ing etc, as the males will do when flexing.

my ancient orange tabby snoozes on a chair, in the shade, feet away from the feeder, totally uncaring. he couldn't reach the feeder or bird anyway. also i think a broadtail hummingbird could kick his ass and he'd be just "welp." he is the best people.

enjoy summer, it's brief.
