Mrs. Dr. C's birthday coming up. I'm thinking leather jacket - she hasn't owned one for years, but has expressed in getting one, one day. Tell me about good ones. I don't mean biker style or fitted, more like a substantial, luxurious, roomy, jackety-type thing. (I don't know what I'm on about, do I?) Dark brown or black, sort of timeless. She's quite tall, - 5'9''. Help!

Have a look at big dept stores like Selfridges? They should have a posh leather section.

oh man I have a couple of leather jackets I need to get rid of, my monkey arms are too long for them. I should figure out ebay.

I'm loathe to suggest it as associating 'Camden' with 'fashion' leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but the stores there do have a plethora of leather jackets just like those, Roxy.

Not a ladies' jacket, but I just got this one. I suppose ladies could wear it. (if they ask nicely, that is)

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Monday, 3 January 2005 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I worry that it won't look the same on me. I'm not that skinny, and I usually wear a shirt.

Blimey - the least popular thread of all time makes a comeback! I got a jacket for Mrs. Dr. C eventually.

Yeah ditto, except I'm mainly worried that breasts will make it look weird. Although I could always just lose the breasts.

I would look absolutely ridiculous in a leather jacket. Actually, maybe not if it was light brown and expensive.

I would look ridiculous in what I consider a "traditional" leather jacket -- like the ones the Ramones wore, I guess?

At full retail price Belstaff would be more than that but in sales or from outlets (or new on eBay) they can typically be found on or under budget. The RRP is rather inflated by the reputation but their jackets are marvelous. I do not wear leather but have often found myself regretting the fact when looking at their stuff.

At a similarly highish end Trussardi are very good. May be harder to find discounted though.

The leather jacket is still an Italian staple so D&G and Diesel are worth a look. Generally good quality and heavily discounted.

In the US, it is worth having a look at John Varvatos.
