Do you do it?

What is the best way? Ask politely or snap them when they aren't looking?

When I owned a camera, I always wanted to do this, but I always chickened out. I think maybe I took a photo of someone behind a window in a restaurant or something.

This girl took a picture of my tatty old army bag once, on the central line. She didn't ask permission or anything. It was a bit weird.

i used to do this all the time. actually most of the people were pretty crazy. for the final assignment of my photo class, i had to take 75 pix and set it to music. my theme was "The Fine Line Between Sleep & Death." i was pretty jobless at the time and spent my days walking through the city. everywhere i went people were sleeping in the parks and the streets. so i'd take them at weird angles so they looked dead. most of the people were homless and close to death anyways.

i started and ended the slideshow with a quote. the first was, "Sleep, those little slices of death, how i loath them. - Poe". it ended with, "Death - the last sleep? No, it is the final
awakening. - Walter Scott"

i also set up a few staged photos of friends committing suicide. there were pills on the nightstand, pillow over head, toaster in the bathtub, car exhaust being tubed into a car, a gun in the mouth. pretty creepy stuff.

and i set them all to Joseph Spence's "I Bid You Goodnight". for some reason, maybe because the song was sort of upbeat and silly, people in the class lauged at every picture when i meant for them to be sad or creepy. maybe people just don't know how to react to weird stuff besides lauging?

anyways, back on topic, almost all of the shots were done without me asking, and at a few times, the people got upset with me and i just sorta turned and walked away fast.
