For those confused so far, TEX was the automated telephone registration system at the University of Texas at Austin. It was also the primary way for students to check their grades at the end of the semester. TEX had a friendly, granular voice that both endeared and infuriarated (when the old man would announce an undesirable grade for a course) UT students.
TEX was discontinued due to low usage. It's about a thousand times easier to register on the web, so I'm not boo-hooing. Just mark this passing as the end of an era.
