I like doing jigsaws. Never mind turning into my Dad, I'm turning into my bloomin' Grandma! How about you?

Tom, Tuesday, 20 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Eh, they're okay, but I haven't done one for at least 10 years. My sister is a jigsaw obsessive though, so that might have something to do with my indifference.

Jigsaws = extra-dull, unless they have tube maps on them.

RickyT, Tuesday, 20 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the tube map jigsaw provided much merriment over the sherry last christmas!

Destroy: those 1000 piece jigsaws of 1000 gray stones.

Jigsaws of jigsaws. Now there's pain for ya.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 20 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You can tell it's nearly the holidays, huh? That's one thing I don't miss about London. You wouldn't know there's only 5 weeks to go 'round these parts (Brussels) - I don't think I've seen a single Christmas decoration yet!

Jigsaws, then. Normally a staple in my house, and I'm sure this season won't be any different. I like the trad. ones, but also some gimmicky ones. We got a good one a couple of years ago that where you had to pair off pieces with images and ones with obscure words printed on them, then fit the pairs correctly into the puzzle (no picture provided). A good way of expanding your vocabulary.

yay, jigsaws! i haven't done one for years but get the occasional craving. my parents had a good one of a world map - v educational but the sea was a bit tricky, ie lots and lots of blue with no distinguishing features.

But what about the atolls? Don't forget the atolls!!

Samantha, Tuesday, 20 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Samantha's atoll-watching has inspired me to new heights on pedantry: what you are all discussing are in fact JIGSAW PUZZLES; the JIGSAW wd be the device where the wiggly line is cut into the wood.

Jigsaws are bettah than jigsaw puzzles. That is all.

egad. just let it be metonymous, mark! (of course before i read your post i was imagining a jigsaw puzzle that forms [a picture of] a jumble of Black and Decker jigsaws; surely this has been done?)

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 20 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

they are the most boring things ever and i don't understand the point. never have. never will. (actually, once i liked a map of new york state with each county being a piece. i don't remember why.)

Maria, Tuesday, 20 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wooden jigsawz are best.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 21 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like jigsaws.

Erm.

That's about all there is to say, really. See, they're mildly entertaining, but... that's it.

Oh, search the big round jigsaws with pictures of birds on etc that my parents have, quite difficult but not infuriatingly impossible, plus edge pieces less obvious than usual. Destroy two-sided jigsaws and 3D jigsaws and jigsaw computer games and all these other unnecessary complications. Except the ace Transformers jigsaw I had as a kid, which was two-sided and the pieces could also slot together as 3D Transformer models. Now there's quality, and it was only 10p from a school jumble sale, too. And seek the word jigsaw. Jigsaw, jigsaw, jigsaw. Smock, smock, smock. Mmm.

Jigsaw = Janet Ellis = CLASSIC.

Will, Thursday, 22 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eight years pass...

Anyone know of anywhere (online or otherwise) that sells jigsaws that aren't horrible Yesteryear crap or cutesy cats or sunsets or Thomas Kincade?
